If they made unlocks universal across all they would lose money. It's not going to happen.

I'm not convinced that is the case. They are releasing a new pattern every month. Perhaps that will only be short term, but I could see a reason to buy a new pattern every month if it was more universal than it is today. Sales help, and have enticed me to spend MC converting a stockpile of unused XP as well as buy some of the premium colors, but the patterns have less value to me the way they are currently.

Keep in mind that right now there may be many folks not buying at all because the price isn't enticing. I can't see PGIs books, so I have no idea if the current price is magic for them financially, but as a consumer I have no problem holding out for a better price, whether it be during a sale, or a permanent price correction. Keep in mind everyone values these things differently, but for me color/patterns don't hold the same value as say premium time or additional mech bays.

Its simple really. They need to Add a Third Choice:

75mc One time use

750 Unlimited to that Chassis (Or how about Weight Class?)

7500 Unlimited All Chassis

More Choice for players = more MC for PGI

I agree. When this system first came out, they didn't really adequately explain that it was a chassis-only unlock so I wasted 750MC thinking I could use that camo on all my mechs (like how colors work). Instead, I basically paid 750MC to paint one mech since I only plan to ever own one variant of that chassis. Woops. It's a stupid set up because, as someone mentioned, there are no chassis with 10+ variants, so this will never be a good buy. Ever.

It's not the set up that's stupid...

Not only did you miss that the camo name was "Raven Dazzle" (hint: "Raven"), you also don't seem to realize that the 750 MC is an unlock - meaning you can use it, then go back to Standard camo, then use your unlocked camo again, and so on - you unlock it, meaning you can use it as many times as you want. Exactly like paint works: Buy once, use forever.

It is a great buy if you think you'll ever use that camo more than 10 times.

I'm not complaining about losing my MC. Don't confuse me with forum whiners who demand MC refunds when they buy the wrong thing. I misread something and paid for it, and your patronizing tone is unwarranted. I don't repaint my mechs every day, I paint them once and that's it. I guess if somebody wants to repaint their mech constantly, it could be useful. Otherwise, it's stupid. It's also NOT just like paint, because paint unlocks for all mechs, not a single chassis.

You would think the fact that it is called "Cataphract Tiger" would be a hint

I admit the error was mine and mine alone. I didn't pay attention. I just saw "UNLOCK" and went Hell yeah! (we are the Skye Tigers and all), then I went d'oh when I tried to put it on my Catapult. It doesn't change the fact that I think the MC cost is too high. At 750 to unlock for the chassis and 75 for single with 4-5 variants per, it's a net loss unless you change it a lot. I don't. I have all the Cataphract variants that I want. I'm just more careful now.

Guess what? Then the unlock is not for you. That doesn't make it "stupid", it's great value for people NOT like you, who like to paint and repaint their 'mechs from time to time.

I guess the concept of "different strokes for different folks" is lostech to some...

Perhaps because you (like me) thinks it rhymes better as "different strokes for different blokes"... B)

Actually its because of the carnal activity involving strokes of all kinds...
