Hello,

is there a viable statistic how much damage every mech is doing per ton in the game at the moment?

The different classes should provide different amounts of damage and at least the heave/assault mechs should do more damage than others.

But I got the feeling, that the light mechs have far the best damage/ton-ratio in the game. Are there any numbers to check this?

cheers
Sherelian

I feel like that's an unreliable statistic. A light mech is risk verses reward. ECM makes you harder to track. Speed makes you harder to hit. But one good alpha strike is going to ruin your day. I see Ravens topping the damage charts... occasionally. It's my personal opinion that few ravin pilots can do that.

Damage is a mater is hardpoints, tonnage and ability to use them. Light mechs naturally suffer a disadvantage.

From what I see in-game, ^this is true: Of course, you can sum up all damage a chassis has done, divide by tonnage and number of matches. But the distribution of damage varys heavily dependent on player skill, loadout (which weapons), and a lot of other factors (map, other players, ....).

You can do a lot of damage with a light mech, but that is rather difficult (skill); there might be a peak at the heavies (doing the most damage, average).

Edit:
Oh, I forgot one thing: damage != benefit for team. You can take out enemy mechs with headshots doing only 18+15 dmg. Or you can spread your LRM damage everywhere (and on several mechs). Total damage is not a very useful value.

And as a light Mech pilot I fill very different roles for my team in the same Mech's. One map I may be Scout and Spotter using only my Tag for the LRM boats. Another Map I may base cap to pull others off the front line. Another again I may be countering my opposing lights. And finally breaking up the enemy by running through their team harassing them and getting them to turn, forcus on me while my team pushes the front line and focusing down targets. Not all of these relies on damage to assist my team, and with the very different combinations of load outs you can put on Mechs a standard list wold not be able to account for all possibility's. I know my 6xPPC Stalker does 60 dam Alpha but some or the LRM boats can do substantially more, with my lights under 20.

The Urbanmech is the most OP mech in MWO.

It is so overpowered that there is no way to balance it. That's why it is now unavailable for purchase. :P

It's not your personal opinion - it was the broken SSRM splash damage - I could get 700+ easily with the classic cheeseraven before last hotfix.

As PGI is trying to design the game so that every mech can kill every mech and its not an assault fest, the damage done per ton is pretty irreverent, although in general, when you see an Atlas-D-DC with 16 damage, its hard not to go, wth? And a light mech with the same could have been capping all day to win the game.

Damage per ton would be skewed towards light mechs. For one very fundamental reason heat dissipation. So let's compare something very common like the common raven 3L build. The weapons don't matter much but the damage per heat and the heat dissipation are all similar values to assault mechs. Similar being within 40%. So let's compare 12 double heat sinks to 18 double heat sinks. The first 10 are all in the engine and give 2.0 cooling or 20 shs capacity. So 2 gives 2.8 more and 8 gives 11.2 more.So we are comparing 22.8 vs 31.2. I'm using 8, cause that seems to be about what I can fit into my loaded out Atlas. Which turns out to be 27% more cooling. Damage following heat dissipation would say that an Atlas that is nearly 3 times the mass of a Raven only does roughly 1/3 more damage. So you will see in final damage done if both live to the end and are in the fights, which the Raven has the speed advantage, something like 600 damage out of the light and 900 damage out of the assault. Conclusion: the Raven is doing almost twice the damage per ton.

+1 vote for the ppc stalker. that is the ugliest sniper in the game and often one shots opponents.

But the A1 oneshots assaults from behind, i've done it. So that skews it towards heavies. But I can also pretty much get a 100pt direct fire Alpha on an Atlas, so that beats the cat. But then my Hbk or TBT only has a ~50pt alpha, yet brings things down at twice the speed.

It's all relative. Find a/some mech(s) you like, and enjoy the game :)

Agreed. See this gameplay vid for when they tried to put the Urbanmech into a regular match:
