Have NPC mechs run circles in testing grounds.

Have some stationary mechs and some mechs, light to heavy, running in a circle pattern. This would make it more realistic for practice.

Nothing fancy just have them put the hammer down after launch with a left or right turn pinned down.

I've often thought they don't need AI just some lose patterns for certain mechs to run in. Give me a raven running in a circle so I can stand in it and practice shooting the damn thing as it literally runs circles around me.

Give me a Heavy running in between buildings on river city. It doesn't need to be perfect because it's the training grounds.

Give me a jump jet mech standing next to some piece of physical terrain jumping up and down like a pop tart

Give me a Medium Mech running in a figure eight pattern and have it turn it's torso constantly to one side so I can practice shooting it as it runs around.

Give me an assault playing peekaboo around a building.

Little things add up to a lot and don't require complicated reaction AI.
