My love of the Highlander comes from the GDL books where Davis McCall loses his Rifleman which was the lance's best Anti-Air 'mech. After the GDL discovers the Helm memory core Davis spends his life savings replacing the lost Rifleman with a Highlander (Bannockburn if memory serves - I really thought that would be the hero 'mech but I think it's the Prime variant maybe? Honestly can't remember).
I think there was a scene in the books where Davis split an Aerospace Fighter up the middle with his Gauss Rifle thanks to his targeting computer and I thought that was freaking awesome. As a groundpounder, I despise Aero with all my heart and soul so the thought of piloting a 'mech that p1sses on ASF gives me a raging erection.

Bannockburn is McCall's Rifleman.
"Davis piloted a Rifleman, affectionately known as "Bannockburn", until it was destroyed during the Helm campaign. He was then able to acquire a Highlander, which he piloted up until his death."

Ahhh yes. So the old piece of crap gets a name but the shiny new Lostech doesn't? Shame on you Davis...

It's the shoulder to chest ratio.
The concept art chest is slightly narrower. In-game arms look spindly next to that huge chest.

Rifleman rulez.
Agreed but I'm talking in a relative context. Old overheating heirloom Rifleman vs. shiny new lostech Highlander with Gauss and a targeting computer and all those goodies and no name for it? If I got my ride upgraded that much and spent my last c-bill on it you better believe the thing is gonna get named.
Crap, I'm getting Highlander frenzy now...how many days left 'til we can pilot it?

Yeah, it's chest is sticking too far out and it seems wider then it should be. In the concept it art is looks as part of the torso. In the 3D model it looks like a box sticking out of it's torso. Like someone said earlier. It's almost like it has mecha boobs, perhaps moobs. ;o

Doesn't stop me from driving the crap outta it though.
If the hardpoints work, I'll drive. Specially since I'll be seeing only the cockpit, anyhow.

Look at the video and when you see the Highlander in the River City map at 0:23 in I think, watch as it walks past the camera man. It definately looks better.

It's been a few years, but I believe he did name the Highlander, though I can't recall what that name was. Sarna is just a wiki, not a definitive encyclopedia of all things BattleTech.
[Edit]
I find myself disappointed that doesn't have the full-on cowl. I always felt that was a big part of the Highlander's intimidation.

That 3D model just looks bad compared to the concept art, it lost a lot of detail and looks boxy and primitive.

I was falling back on my memory of the books more than Sarna...the only name I could remember was Bannockburn but it turns out that was his old ride. A quick google search doesn't get me anything on the Highlander's name either.
I agree about the cowl. I don't like the speakers that much either, I kinda wish the hero Highlander was Davis' rather than Rhonda's.

As an example, just take a look at the STK-3H and STK-4N. You will immediately notice that the laser hardpoints on the 4N are sunken, yet when you switch to the 3H, those ports have been beefed out, closed with a lid that flattens that section of the torso.
Now if you look carefully at the concept vs the pink one, you will/should immediately notice the 2 laser hardpoints in the RT on the concept that are missing on the pink one, the points themselves covered with a lid.
The concept is likely the default model. Since the Hero variant will undoubtedly be unique, its not surprising to see the 2 Laser points in the chest covered over to give it a more flat appearance.
Also, I'd like to point out that some variants of the Highlander have Streak-6s in 3050. Which means we may see SSRM6 in that 6 tube launcher.
But I'm no expert in battletech timeline stuff.
Not on the IS side they don't. Only clan tech has Streak anything over 2s in 3050. :/
