So watching the last week seeing all the interesting things that are happening around here... namely:

The Transmission and This discussion regarding the mystery found at http://mwomerc.com/heartbeat .

These happenings accompanied by the present date of the game: 31 May 3049

Has lead me to believe we're about to experience a very pivotal battletech moment that happened on 27 September 3048. First contact with the Clans.

History

The ComStar Explorer Corps was founded in 2959 by Primus Adrienne Sims. Its mission was to survey the space around the Inner Sphere to identify any potential threat to ComStar's technological superiority from beyond the Periphery, most notably discovering what happened to the Exodus Fleet. The corps sent hundreds of missions in every direction since it's formation searching for even the barest evidence to their fate without success.
The Merchant Class Outbound Light, carrying two DropShips, the Knox (Union-class) and the Golden Hind (Buccaneer-class), departed from Bone-Norman in June 3046 on a standard three-year exploratory survey and was manned by a crew of 46, with a standard seven-person Explorer Corps survey team. After a relatively uneventful survey, on 27 September 3048 the Outbound Light jumped into what they thought was an unknown G7V star system. Unfortunately, it was the Clan Smoke Jaguar capital of Huntress. [1]

What I think we're going to see from the unscrambled message will undoubtedly be from the doomed Outbound Light jumpship, most likely a candid shot of a clan mech. So presently in the time-line we are nearly a year after this event. What has transpired outside of the Inner Sphere is this:

Quote

Captured by the Clan

Sensing an opportunity to break the deadlock in the Great Debate in favor of the Crusader faction, but fearing that the Inner Sphere might be on the verge of discovering the location of the Clan homeworlds, Khan Leo Showers ordered that the vessel be taken intact, with the crew unharmed. In the subsequent weeks, Leo Showers had the crew of the Outbound Light interrogated to assemble a picture of the current state of the Inner Sphere. When Khan Showers finally announced the capture of ComStar vessel, he selectively presented the most damning evidence, such as the growing power of the Federated Commonwealth and the rediscovery of much Star League technology that had been lost over two centuries of near-constant warfare, and was able to convince the rest of the Clans that they themselves faced imminent invasion from the "barbarians" of the Inner Sphere. The result was a Grand Council vote in favor of invasion, with only Clan Wolf voting against. Khan Leo Showers took advantage of pro-Crusader sentiment, and was elected ilKhan of the Grand Council. Preparations to invade the Inner Sphere began immediately. Their plan was named Operation Revival. [1]

So we're very quickly hurtling towards August 3049, when Clan Wolf, Jade Falcon, Smoke Jaguar and Ghost Bear make themselves known which results in a 3 year long melee and an eventual additional 3 Clans joining the fray.

;) can't wait.

This so works for me.

I wouldn't be surprised that you may have to earn your way into playing in a Clan.

That would be Epic and I surely would not make the cut, and I'm ok with that. As long as the Clan gets hit with some handicapps. etc.

well i think its possible that the crew of Outbound Light made an encrypted transmission to comstar informing about the clans...so the Artims website can be a hint to that..something like..Clans found with superior tech or something.. and that triggers the beginning for comstar to develop their own defenses....

I would not mind at all having to work toward Clans, but it would be nice to be able to in essence be the first born of a fledgling Clan.

From the PCgamer MWO interview:

Quote

So you’re going to be roughly following the outline laid-out in the novels and games?

BE: Absolutely. So any date-time references that exist within the novels, so the time the clans first meet the Outbound Light, it’s going to be there. In fact, we’ve already referenced it. It’s already referenced in our Twitter feed that’s live right now, which is simulating what the players are going to experience once the game goes live.
So all of the canon, all the stories, all the references will be distributed through this community portal that we have that is MechWarrior Online in the form of news stories, articles and – this is the best part – what players do. …So this allows the player, and their exploits, to actually become part of the what’s going on in the universe. So they actually contribute to the story and the timeline of the universe.
And we take all the existing canon and all the existing story and we use that as a backdrop to initiate change and create conflict for the players to participate in.
