Just had a match where I was shot square in the back by a mech over 600 meters behind me, it zero damage to my back armor but competely stripped my undamaged front armor and damaged my side torso. Whats the point of even having directional damage when this type of thing happens?

I'm not saying this didnt happen to you, just that I haven't seen this sort of thing in a while, except for missles when splash damage was still in. How do you know you didnt get snipped from someone in front of you outside of your sensor range with a pair of gauss rifles or something?

Easily, it was on Alpine and the entire enemy team was in the same place. I had cover on my right and was faced square away from what shot me. I've had this happen on occasion and while i cant say for sure it seems to happen the most when hit with PPCs.

Are you sure the shot hit your back armor and not the back section of your mech's crotch? If I'm not mistaken the crotch section of a mech is considered part of the center torso and any hits on the crotch are registered as front center torso damage.

It hit my side torso, no other damage was done anywhere on my mech. It was definitely a back shot. I just had this happen again on frozen city from opposite side. Took a shot directly in the front, nothing was behind me, it damaged my back side torso this time.
