Yes I know what bloatware is, and Steam qualifies in every regard. I love all the fanbois supporting their gaming company, but grow up.

Uh, MWo works fine in Steam. Add it as a non steam game as you would with anything else, it'll open the launcher, you click play as usual and can still Shift-Tab the Steam community in mechlab and battle. Just use the MWO exe that it should find when it searches and you're set.

then again they had War Z on steam for a while...maybe MW:O shouldn't be on steam...(at least until its "finished")

The WarZ debacle was highly amusing, and no matter what you think about MWO it is a much better game, and much better managed, than WarZ. WarZ has some nice potential, but the devs there are bound and determined to ruin any possibility of a good game.

Why bother with the poorly coded bloatware that is Steam, be happy you can play it without using it.

I literally laughed out loud when I read this.

It's a joke, right?

debatable, the War Z Devs where bad for lying and money gouging, things the MW:O Devs also do, (mind you no where near as badly)

You can add MWO to Steam, but it'll only show when you start playing. Once you start a match, you vanish from Steam and don't reappear.

Also, you're losing out on the overlay.

Seriously, Steam is awesome if you have friends. I've bought games that I'd never heard of before after seeing other friends playing it, asking them how it was, and buying it. This is REALLY handy for friends who are out of "seeing them in person" range.

As to system resources/bloatware? How sad is your system? On my aging AMD Phenom 2 x4 965be, it never reaches 1% CPU. It has no impact whatsoever on system performance. It's using 85MB of ram when in use - ridiculously little.

Running steam isn't going to impact game performance in any noticeable fashion unless you're running a system woefully unable to handle MWO in the first place.

God, I'd love to see MWO natively on Steam. Unlike Origin, Steam actually works and adds a lot of value to games. It's not just a content delivery/evil DRM scheme, it's actually extremely useful.

hmm that's what I've done, but I cannot get the overlay. I guess I'll play with it more after 2XP is done.

20% of your whole profits going to Valve is hardly what I'd call free advertising.

Can you prove that is the Valve tax for free to play games, because I don't believe you.

Do you know what bloatware is?

Running a task in the background on startup?

Constantly using system resources?

So... That's anything. DON'T USE AN OS GUYS, IT CLOGS UP THE RAM!

But seriously, what kind of computer are you running where something like steam actually puts a significant hindrance on the machine? Are you trying to play on a potato?

Funny you mention that. Linus Torvald officially stated that the Linux kernal has become too bloated. I guess Linux is bloatware now.

MWO works for me on Steam too. I use this path for it - "C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32\MechWarriorOnline.exe"

It's hogging an entire 231MB of RAM currently on my computer!

Steam uses up .001% of my 8gigs of DDR3 ram.

I've had no problems with steam running MWO with the overlay besides the simple fact I KEEP FORGETING TO LAUNCH IT THROUGH STEAM AND NOT THE SHORT CUT ON MY DESKTOP!

Seriously need to replace that short cut ffs.

Small potatoes in the industry, really. http://bf3blog.com/2...top-50-million/

That's marketing alone, remember.

Mine works just fine. Unfortunately, idk how I did it, because it works for other games, such as league of legends, that have trouble doing this as well. As far as I've noticed, I'm the only one who doesn't really have problems with this, but unfortunately I have no idea what I did in order to make it work. I remain in-game from the time I start the launcer, through matches, until I exit, and can even access the steam overlay at anytime. And as far as free advertising goes, I have had people message me asking about it and had them try it out, although unfortunately none of them stayed.. but at least they tried it out.

Free advertising, right?  I think that's a good thing!

Now, if someone here knows how to do this right now, please feel free to post how as it is driving me nuts trying to get it to work right.

The way I do it is, open to the mechbay, click on the launcher link again (cannot open, already in play!), and THAT tricks Steam into saying you're playing!  Then click back to the MWO window and SHAZOOOOO~M!  Too bad you have to wait till you're back to desktop to answer all the "has that game got better" "OMFG they finally made a new BT game?!" etc etc questions.   :D

Been using it as a non-steam game for 6+ months. So have 2 of my friends (we use steam chat as our VOIP). Always says we are in MWO when we are in matches (friends list is on my second monitor).

I didn't do anything special, just added it.

I have had to modify shortcuts for MMO style games before. KOTOR this summer was the last one I did it for I think.. The launcher would show, but actual in-game would not.

Not for me it doesn't. It just dissapears after I run it so my friends see me doing nothing and the overlay doesn't work.

Can you post up your command line?
