also
when buying an engine HOW THE HELL do you see how much faster it will make you? do you have to buy it first???

Upper 80's is good for a hunched. When you add the engine look at the mech it will give you top speed.

These are my general guidelines when building a mech, though no doubt people will disagree with me:
Lights: the closer to 150kph the better
Mediums: at least 80kph, ideally 90+
Heavies: at least 64kph, ideally 80+
Assaults: at least 50kph, ideally 60+

Assaults: at least 50kph, ideally 60+

Depending on what hunchback it is you should probably try and fit a standard engine 260 (the engine cap) in there. Unless you're trying to fit heavy ballistics

As fast as necessary. A balance must be struck between firepower, armor, heat efficiency, and mobility.

Fastest possible is a 'good' speed.
Anything less and you are not torso twisting, and turning as fast as you need to be, let alone moving to cover fast enough.
In this game, I haven't learned alot, but I have learned that speed equals life.....

For hunchies normally I use a 245 or 260. Lets you go at around 79-84kph without Speed Tweak. You can get a 245 from a Jenner and a 260 from a Catapult or Jagermech.

depends on your self given role and/or play style.

I generally stick a 250 std in an HBK and call it good enough.

I once made a Cicada with a 100 rated engine, an AC/20 and a Large Laser. This was too slow.

Indeed, I used several hunchies while I was getting them XP'd out. The big AC mounting swaybacks I used tended to be best in a hit and run role so I had faster engines. However I have sold those and now only use my HBK-4SP in a assault mech defense mode (keep fast lights and mediums at bay or dead). In that role I don't need to move fast, so I don't.
EDIT: The hunchback is the "assault" of the mediums, and it has fantastic arm and torso movement that makes it one of the best mechs for swatting flies. I mount x2 Llaser, x2 M lasers and x2 SSRMs (and a tag in the head). I've cut down many a 3L or Cent that was trying to flank my formation looking for soft backs.
