I think somewhere along the way, PGI took a detour into a road it could never return. That is altering the armor and weapons balancing and as a result is caught in a never ending vortex.

The simplest way is to reset all weapons and armor values to the original values (tabletop?) when the game started. The player community can be notified ahead of time on a specific date of implementation. A moratorium period (a month?) will be held to observe effects and reactions, allowing for adjustments and changes in the next patch if it comes to be.

Weapons balancing is essentially a Gordian knot that keeps growing more spaghetti complicated until some drastic measure needs to be taken.

The problem with tabletop armor values is two-fold.

First... the game is designed for things to hit relatively randomly. I am not firing the PPC, I'm simply telling the pilot to fire a PPC and rolling an incompetence check to see where it careens off to. In MWO - we are all in control of where our weapons go when we tell them to go there.

Second - table top is designed around ten second turns. A medium laser fires once every ten seconds. A small laser fires once every ten seconds. A gauss rifle fires once every ten seconds. You get the picture.

Compound the fact that we have a real time environment where you get to fire your small laser three times every ten seconds and figure that a couple players potentially have an angle of fire on you at any given time... and you will go down faster than you realize what happened.

A Jenner will hit you with six medium lasers in the back, and it'll be goodnight. Canon values place it at 5 damage - that's 30 points of damage... when canon stats have armor at 16 points per ton. Obviously - some problems will arise with regards to medium lasers and... well... anything using PPCs.

We had original tabletop values in the beginning of closed beta.

It was awful.

Double armor was the right move.

the best thing pgi could have done would have been to totally drop the armor and weapon stats and redo them to work with realtime aiming, realtime movement and higher firerates.

the guys who created tabletop game decided that they want random hit locations based on dice roles and also hexes for range, so they came up with the weapon stats to match those mechanics.
they never took a real time video game where you aim for yourself and will be developed about 30 years in the future.
