Just When I Think Cicada Is My Least Favorite Trial Mech...

See? This is what I'm talking about when I say "Focused Hero Mechs" Bravo
I'm 2/2 happy right now with the Yen-Lo-Wang (from the 30% off sale) and now the Cicada X5 Hero Mechs.
Are there any other Hero Mech Recommendations out there? I like all weight classes, and to me the YLW and the X5 are what I would call "Focused." What other Hero Mechs might I like?
Can we get a Dragon Hero Mech in the future?
Also, how to unlock modules? And Supposedly there is Pilot EXP? Do Garage slots ever go on sale?

Cataphract: Ilya Muromets (good ballistic and laser mech, remember not to stare at your enemy when they shoot back though...)

I would recommend avoid Ilya if you don't like UAC5, it's the only build that's on my radar when I'm up against them, but if the OP likes the YLW, they might have what it takes to enjoy the Ilya with other setups. I don't own either, so take this with a grain of salt.

We have two of them... and I don't like either.
Flame>Fang though...
Sucks that I thought of a decent Flame build after I sold it...

The Flame is a handsome beast, even without any flamers in its loadout? lol
Personally I'd drop the ER laser in favor of Med Laser X2
Or Scrap the AC/2 Altogether and go X2 Large Laser
As for the Ilya what do you need all those different caliber cannons for?
Even 6,000 MC Pretty Baby looks like it is spread rather thin instead of just dropping the BS and going X2 PPC.
They both have a colorful weapons loadout, but neither says "This Mech Doesn't F---- around" like the YLW or the X5.
Very efficient IMHO.

Arguably it's due to the size of the shell - a bigger shell travels less distance before losing speed, but has much more follow through. Think musket ball vs catapult rock. Granted, it's a crude comparison, and the scaling damage past max range on MWO's ballistics really doesn't reflect that they're all HEAP rounds anyways, but it's roughly the principle behind it. Also, don't look too deep into the physics of it, at a certain, fairly shallow point, none of it makes any sense whatsoever.

The Flame certainly has my recommendation though.
High torso mounted Ballistic point means great accuracy and the ability to shoot over rises without exposing anything but your cockpit and shoulders. And like all Dragons an XL engine is an actual option, if only because of the extremely hard to hit side torsos.
STD300
AC20
4xML
90 k/ph, 40 point alpha, accurate ballistics and mobile lasers make it a hell of a killer. Other builds I've seen are the XL Gauss/Large Laser builds, but I've never gotten around to trying them, like my AC20 too much.

2A the best 4 coring mech
3C my favorite sniper if the UAC not fails i can demolish an atlas in mere seconds.
3M the fast light hunter ECM with Pulse Mad laser runs 151
all of them have shields on the side to guard ur weapons
they are amazing all of them 5X is mainly a brawler and its wont be to popular when collision is back its limited not to much 4 customization on top its easy to lose 2 lesser lrm useless in it srms take a lot of ton and space cicadas are energy boats with big fire power but very bad heat efficiency

I confess I really only have experience with last weeks trial mechs, the YLW the X5 and I put together 2 builds of my own with the 50/50 sale, the Atlas and the Cat.
IDK, I just think that having more punch in a more easily accountable range (i.e. X2 of something) is so much more effective than having to worry about designating the right laser to the right range X1, X1, X1 etc.

after you unlocked it you can buy em for C Bi8lls and fit em into your Mech.

FTFY
To explain, the Flame has only 5 tubes in it's missile launcher, meaning an SRM/6 doesn't fire all missiles at once. Let alone the fact that the majority of the Flames firepower is on both of its arms, meaning you can easily semi-neuter it.
Personally, having driven both mechs in an effort to find a competent build, I would avoid them entirely unless you are a die hard DRG fan. There are better mechs out there.
As a suggestion that many other posters have already brought forth, the ILYA is probably the "best" hero mech at the moment, vastly outnumbering the amount of other heroes I have seen on the field of battle and being the only hero mech I consistently see in 8 mans.

Not knocking the Ilya, cause I never played it, but judging solely by its loadout, I would have went X2 AC/10's and drop the small laser for another medium. But then again, maybe the Small laser is a way to deal with those pesky lights...
Why can't I got directly from MechLab to PilotLab?
User Interface is very frustrating for such an awesome game.
