While MWO has a build in GUI for Lance Leader and Commander they are sheldom used.
And compared to the standard of Battlefield 2/ Battlefield 2142 ( Games more than seven years old ! ) this GUI is rather clumsy.

The thing ist that you have to switch to Battlegrid to issue orders. Switching to Battlegrid kills your speed, so it's not possible to give out quick orders. And even if you give an order, your lancemates are only informed by a "Bing" sound.

The SquadLeader System of Battlefield 2142 is much easier to use:
Simply aim your crosshair at any point in the world and press T: A "Move to this position" Order is set.
If under the crosshair was an icon for an control point, an "Attack this position" or "Defend this position" Order is set, depending if the control point is friendly/neutral/enemy.
A Shield/Sword/Pointer symbol is applied to the Hud, showing in wich direction the Squad have to move, and every Squadmember is informed by a voice file that order was giving.
Yes, the games yells "Attack here" instead of making "BING"

Voice files are also the key to the Commrose in Battlefield 2, a circular menue there the player can pick up an send messages to his Squadmates with a mouseklick.
Would it not be nice to give Orders like "Fall Back" "Charge" "Regroup" as a MWO Lance Leader ?

In Battlefield 2142 it's even possible to command up to 8 squads without going to the Battlegrid: It works like the Squadleader System, only that you can choose with the mousewheel to wich squad the order is send.
