Hello everyone,

It has been awhile (probably close to 15 years?) since I have built a pc and would appreciate some feedback on a build I am thinking of. I plan on using it mainly for MWO, as I have my laptop for general web surfing, youtube, etc. I have been reading through other threads on the forums and I hope I have a good starting point at least.

Cost puts this right around $550. Not looking for anything fancy, but something that will play the game well. I'll pick up a copy of Win7 sp1 64 bit along with keyboard and mouse after I check them out in a store.

the build looks great to me shouldnt have a problem running mwo with that setup along with most other games on max settings

If you can afford it get a Solid State Drive larger ones can be expensive, but you can get a 120gb one and a 1tb hdd as storage. Install the main OS on the SSD and you're current main games and everything else on the 1TB HDD. They are very good and you will be amazed at the boot speed, load speed, etc of everything.

I think his budget's a little low for an SSD. If he had the $100 to blow, he could upgrade the GPU instead, and then the CPU, and then maybe an SSD would be a consideration. I'm a huge SSD guy, but they're simply premium items for builds that already have more fundamental stuff fully covered.

OP, if you could upgrade that 7770 to a 7790, you'll be a lot happier. It's like $40 more, and you're getting a card that's alomst a 7850. If that's not in the budget, then that's a good build. I can't think of any way to make it better without upgrading something to a more expensive part.

I used newegg to get a basic shopping list of what I need, and will use pcpartpicker, thanks for the link, when I start buying parts.

Sapphire OC cards are some of the better cards you can get. The Dual-X cooler is somewhere in the middle for sound, but it has some of the best cooling performance you can get (really beaten only by the Vapor-X coolers from... you guessed it, Sapphire ), and they make those coolers cover the RAM and VRMs, unlike most non-reference coolers.

If you think you're going to overclock at all, or you just want something a little faster that runs really cool, they're not a bad way to go in general. I'm using a Sapphire OC version of the 7970 right now. If you follow through on that rebate, then you're getting a really good deal there.

Agreed on the GPU upgrade, the only other issue i can sort of spot, is that you only have a 250GB HDD in there, so you will be a little tight on space, i dont know how many games or such you plan on playing.

I just saw this seagate 500GB barracuda, same RPM/Cache as the Samsung you spec'd, it is only 10 more. Might be worth a look if you plan on playing a lot of games, having videos, etc.

Oh and not sure exactly where you are located OP, but Neweggs prices arent always the best. Try finding a store that will price match others.

If you are in Canada:
Use http://www.shopbot.ca/ to find the cheapest retailers/etailers for your parts in canada
Then price match with http://www.memoryexpress.com/ and voila saves a bunch of money.

if youre in a different country just ignore that haha

I recently realized that I have been spending $20 - $40 each on DVD drives for my PCs for a long time. I have several computers and it seems like I only ever use the DVD drive to install software or re-install OS.

I finally decided to stop this, and invested in an external drive with USB connector. I splurged a little and bought a BluRay reader/writer. I am not planning to buy any more internal DVD drives.

EDIT: Also, basic keyboards and mice are pretty expensive on newegg. They make good margin on those little accessories. The same Logitech keyboard is like $7 on amazon.com but $15 on newegg. If you have Amazon Prime and get free shipping, you can save a few bucks just by not purchasing keyboards and mice from newegg.

Almost everything else I found was cheaper for me to buy from newegg than any amazon sellers, even after the shipping.
