Why are they considered bad, don't they have a hard point set up similar to the other ballistic cent?

Two lasers in the chest, two guns in the arm, but since it's a 50 tonner, you'll rarely have the room for two.

Yen lo wangs suck, but I'm glad they're around. I paint my Cent A & D to look like a yen lo wang and hope someone shoots for my arm.

Yeah, that is potentially a lot of hardware swingin in the breeze then, at least if you bring something with bite. Probably would have to sacrifice some speed too. I already have a hero mech I hate, I'll pass on this one too.

The Yen-Lo? Yeah, it's ****.

I've gotten games with my commando where I get 4 kills and over 1000 damage, but I don't feel the need to rub screenshots in people's faces.

Y'all can suck on my Yen-Lo-Wang if you think it's a bad boy.

My favorite medium mech by far. Most challenging and fun to pilot.

Yup. That's the rumor.

I've been playing with other mechs the last few weeks, but about a month ago, had a member of my Merc Corp on TS badmouthing YLW, and how useless it is, so the next drop I pulled YLW and buddy dropped with the critic. Mind you I hadn't run YLW Since the Cataphract debuted because I am utterly addicted to my 4X "BigDakka", so this was a cold drop.

Not quite as impressive as yours, but I think between the two if us, it demonstrates that YLW is absolutely more than just "viable" but in the hands of a pilot who understands how to use cover to set up hit and fade strafes, with precision aim, YLW is an utterly devastating ride. You deride it as horrible, but your results argue otherwise. I find that when I am "in the zone" an average of 2 assault mechs fall per match to my Pontiac 1000 AC/20.

The thing that YLW generally sucks against, is lights, as you really can't pack an arsenal well suited for engaging them. (Tis why I miss the AH... ac/20 AND SRMS, or Streaks, much better for swatting things)

There are few bad mechs, just bad pilots.

I have no issues running it with the default weapons and some personal modifications. It was my entryway into centurions and I am quite happy playing it. 1v2'd a Treb and TDK in it earlier so I earned my tonnage for the match.

Vassago is just jelly we can make it work, haters gonna hate

I played YLW a bunch this weekend for the extra Hero bonus. Mind you, I'm not a great Centurion pilot - as in, I hadn't piloted a Centurion until Friday.

At first, it felt pretty mediocre. People would shoot the arm off and I'd still last awhile because it's tough, but I couldn't do all that much with just two medium lasers left.

Then I stuck an XL-300 in it, and promptly had back-to-back matches with three or four kills. It feels even tougher because I can use the extra speed to get out of bad situations and stay at range from things like Splatcats, and I've found that my AC/20 arm lasts quite a bit longer because people have more trouble hitting it. I still have a shield arm and plenty of side torso armor to take hits as I close in or escape from an engagement.

It's not a fantastic 'mech like a Splatcat or a Raven, but it is a solid option with some potential in the right hands, and ever since using the XL I've been enjoying it quite a bit.

The OPs and your screenshot proves all that how?

Tangentially, I've seen some bloody horrendous builds being carried around by Founders over the last several days. An Atlas with Twin ERPPCs and twin AC5s sitting 1000m behind the front lines and sniping, a Raven 3L without ECM schlepping LRM5s and on and on.

People are really really bad at the mechlab.

755 is impressive on a medium, to say nothing of YLW. What did you have on it?

But.. to be somewhat objective, what was the other team doing? I normally get results like that when I get curbstomped. Looks like half their team was working (2 ECM Atlas, a ECM Raven, and a Hero 'Phract), the rest are quite underperforming. They also fought more as individuals then as a group, with few assists, whereas your team looks to be quite cohesive, with multiple mechs ganging up on the enemy.

Feels like your team caught half of the enemy team out in the open (or they popped over the ridge miscoordinated) and murderized them with long-range fire, then had issues finding those ECM mechs. Depending on your loadout, your positioning of the YLW looks to be optimal to take advantage of their blind spots/ preoccupations with others. Good exploitation.

Only hanging in the breeze if you don't know how to run it. I find I get the hump blown off my Hunchback a lot more easily. My wang breaks 100 kph and packs an AC/20 and 2 Medium Pulse lasers. I keep my left side to the enemy, when I am exposed, and bring my AC into action only when ready to shoot. Left arm serves one purpose: Soaking Damage. You wanna brawl with YLW, then you will be in trouble. Learn how to flank, and have a little patience, you can run most enemies to overheat and then drop an alpha in their face for their trouble. Is it the best mech ever? Hardly. But I would rather drive it, and have to actually learn some skill than easy mode mechs with ECM or Cheezy Stalkers and A1s.
