Prolly they'll release the hero mech tomorrow, while the availability of the "vanilla" landers will only be for the next patch programmed for April.

Pure marketing I think, if they'll do this.

It's probably gonna come out in the middle of the month like the Trebuchet and Jagermech before it.

Why would they release the hero mech first? How does that help marketing? :D

Well technically it helps sales, not marketing. But I think the idea is that there will be a small segment of people who 1) really want to use the Highlander and 2) would be on the fence about buying Heavy Metal (the hero Highlander), and that that a segment of that segment will buy it whereas they wouldn't have otherwise.

Moooo, moooo, milk me PGI, i'm a big, fat cash-cow.

Jokes aside, I'm quite curious if it comes out... & if it comes out together with the re-introduction of collision damage (highlander burial anyone?).

I like it. PGI is finally making effort utilizing the great cash bait - Hero 'Mechs - to make money, by releasing a new Chassis's Hero variant ahead of normal ones. Is it cash grab? Yes. Will it break game balance? No. As long as they don't release their normal variants TOO late, this is entirely acceptable.

However, I'm still waiting for a Spider hero....

The truth is we have no actual confirmation, as far as I know

I personally think they will, but we have no proof until we see a dev update and/or patch notes

I think it's pretty obvious that they're either experimenting with their announcement timings or are concerned that the community impression of the highlander in general might hurt sales for heavy metal. It's kinda bizarre - but I guess it makes sense if u look at it from their end. If the highlander comes out first and everyone spends a week talking about how bad it sucks (and how heavy metal will be more of the same), they won't sell as many. If I'd known about the stop distance nerf before they released PB (and well I did - I read it JUST as I logged in to buy it. Didn't take time to wait and see exactly what the nerf "meant"), I wouldn't have bought it either... They're just trying to capitalize off the initial buzz (assuming it IS released tomorrow as expected).

Say what you will but this actually came from a suggestion from the forums. Someone suggested they release the hero mech first to boost sales, and I agree it's a good idea.

The only problem with this is since the regular variants haven't been out they don't truely know what a unique variant should be like. Which makes it more possible for the hero mech to be crap, or OP. Considering most of the other ones are crap I'm kinda hoping this one at least starts OP.
