Can we get an official explanation of how ELO works, and what the match score really means? I've been playing since closed beta, and I would like to consider myself a somewhat decent pilot - maybe a journeyman if you prefer that term - but I'm finding more and more often that I'm being deployed with players piloting trial mechs who have absolutely no idea what they're doing.

I understand that they need to start somewhere, but shouldn't they maybe start a bit lower? Or.. if there was some way to check my ELO, maybe I would be able to tell whether or not I was the problem? Seems to me that the rest of the players tend to be at the same skill level as me, but having one person running around the map cluelessly lost, and firing all their weapons way past max range... they pretty much seal the fate of whatever team they end up on. I've been on both sides of this problem, and these players make for very unsatisfying kills, and I know it's incredibly frustrating to spectate them as well.

So.. how does all this magic work? Is there any way to expose these numbers on our stats page? Are you sure new pilots are starting at the right level?

Thanks,

New players start with average stats. If you see a lot of new players you are probably an average pilot. Nothing wrong with that. The enemy team has the same chance to have them then in that Elo bracket. Also Elo brackets get widened or tightened dynamically depending on the players in the queue.

Match score is unrelated to Elo and really serves no purpose at all.

Finally, with all the bugs, the crashing and freezing, that's what seals matches tbh, not new players. Last match I played 2 players on our team of 7 vs 8 did freeze out - and unless you are on voice comms with them or see them spinning on the spot or running into a wall you'll never know...

As above. ELO is not the only factor in matchmaking.

Maybe there is no slot in lower tier games for the new players.
Maybe there is no better player in that mech class.
Or maybe there is just not enough players.

PGI has said they are looking into the possibility of allowing our own ELO to be viewed, no official word on it yet.

There's a very recent thread commenting on ELO just a couple days ago. Also a few more dating back to February. Searching may help answer some of your questions.

ELO is a fail, skilled matchmaking system will never work, as more data is collected laws of averages takes over and all scores start to even out to the Point that they become meaningless.

As far as I have seen mech class is no longer part of MM calulations at all. Had matches wher we had no light or meds but enemy team had over half as fast lights on conquest on tourmaline guess the result

It doesnt work at all. Current MM is a huge fail, it's pure luck that matters. NO TONNAGE BALANCE, W T F? It's LUCK what matters now. Even ***** can play ECM raven platoon and pwn whole match. And guess what the team with no lights do in conquest?

Absolutely ridiculous.
