Since the zoom module will not be fixed due to it being a cryengine issue...
how about adapting it to still perform the same function but through a different way?
Instead of visual zoom why not make it a targeting-computer type display function?
The concept is simple:
Taking into account that:
1- We have 2 displays that show the enemy mech's status
2- The game uses a lock-box to enclose the target
3- The game does keep independent track of at least 2 different aimpoints (arms and torso aimpoint)
... why not simple make it so that the enemy mech display screens become the 'lockbox'.
...and whenever your aimpoint is inside the lock-box, a cursor animation appears inside the enemy mech display screens (lock-box borders = display screen borders)?
That way if you visually aim, at max zoom, at the leg of a mech the aimpoint on the target mech display should show a cursor hovering over the leg.
While not exactly being a 'zoom module' it performs the same sniper-support function: It lets you see where the heck your guns are aiming.
