So I have this Cicada 3M, and I either want to do a Ultra A/C 5 or an LB 10X. With the Ultra I can get two mediums on there as well, while the 10X can only get two smalls. I run two tons of ammo with either. I havn't played many matches with the 10x but I cant help but feel like it should work out. The question I have I suppose is which will probably serve me better over all.

IMO you should go 2xLL, 2xML, or 1xLpulse, 3xML with a 300xl so you go 133.7 kph. A ppc would work instead of the LPL if you have a good ping.

Ballistics will definitely hold you back IMO, but I guess if you are incredible at aiming them and have a low ping I would say you could put an UltraAC5 in there. Nothing will substitute for fun though, if you don't like your mech you will play badly, so if you want that LBX10, go for it.

I don't have mech lab available to me here but I have doubts that you'll be able to get an acceptable engine into any cicada that uses auto cannons. They're just so heavy. If you can't roll an XL 280, 300, or 325 then I'd suggest abandoning the idea. I cicada is basically a scout mech, just a bit heavier, and a small engine will end badly.

I'd head over to the Guides section of the forums.

You'll get more answers and less QQ.

I had a dual AC/2 set up that I really liked. Most people don't know that chain fire doesn't increase your DPS when you fire only AC/2s (chainfire fires ballistics every .5 seconds, an AC/2 reloads every .5 seconds. So if you group them it can be a pretty good harasser.

I used the 3M trial to grind up to a cent after The Great Reset after closed beta. Back when AC/5's were OP.

Back on topic. The two weapons you mentioned serve two different roles. If you want a skirmishing/ support mech, go for the UAC/5. It has great DPS until it jams, but by then you can be off to your next target. The LBX would be best for close support or brawling. It, along with some guerrilla tactics can make for a deadly surprise for any mech that's already crippled.

Your best freind is statitics. Play both, see which one gives you a better result on you stats page, then use that.

Have fun in that cicada. I miss having those little guys in my garage.

Not with any decent amount of ammo you can't.

I recommend http://mwo.smurfy-ne...491f0102310a39.

Or alternatively 4xMPL or LL, 3x ML with extra heatsinks.

Ignore the ballistics slot, trust me it isn't worth it.

I wouldn't recommend ballistics, but if you really feel the need take the LBX10, the uAC5 will be useless.

Low damage/high DPS guns are not your friend in small lighter mechs, AC2/uAC5 require time on target to do real damage, a luxury you don't have in a mech that will die immediately if it slows down. Low caliber weapons just end up spraying damage all over your enemy if you can't stop moving to aim, which achieves nothing.

Edit:
If you can scrounge up an extra tonne for an AC/10 it would be worth the hassle. The LBX10 is still fairly useless. Tiny effective range, splatters damage everywhere. An SRM6 with Artemis is better in every way. It's passable if you can face hug, but that's not really ideal in such a light mech.

AC5 + PPC (together) or gauss rifle (alone) are effective at 15 tons for either loadout (not counting ammo) for a stealth sniper ECM support build. The AC5/PPC combo is particularly weight efficient as you can be effective with only one ton of ammo (30 AC5 rounds) for 16 tons total. You can extend your range and firepower with UAC5+ERPPC but will run hotter, weight more, and need more ammo (at least 2 tons). The 3M is not a point blank brawler. You want to stay far away and off sensors with this mech. You are no match for a Raven 3L, so you want to be the unseen sniper.
