Had an idea regarding armor.
Battlemechs are meant to be TONES and TONES of armor, which can withstand poundings and brawls that can last up to hours.
For sake of gameplay – we can’t have this (obviously)
However:
Many assaults have (very near) the total armor values of heavy Mechs.
Many heavy mechs have (very near) the total armor values of some medium and some assault mechs.
Many medium mechs have (very near) the total armor values of some heavy and some light mechs.
Some light mechs have (very near) the total armor values of some medium mechs.
What if DAMAGE RESISTANCE was added to armor according to class? Say:
STOCK DAMAGE RESISTANCE PER CLASS
Light – 5% damage resistance (BASE)
Medium – 8% damage resistance (+3%)
Heavy – 12 % damage resistance (+4%)
Assault – 17% damage resistance (+5%)
…. WITH an ELITE pilot ability to increase armor damage resistance by 5% for an extra 8000 or 10000 XP? So:
ELITE DAMAGE RESISTANCE PER CLASS
Light – 10% damage resistance
Medium – 13% damage resistance
Heavy – 17% damage resistance
Assault – 22% damage resistance
This could also increase if you decide to use FERRO FIBROUS ARMOR. Say, armor protection is increased by +2% on top of the weight reduction. Therefore, FERRO with ELITE would give you per class:
Light – 12% damage resistance
Medium – 15% damage resistance
Heavy – 19% damage resistance
Assault – 24% damage resistance
It could even be broken down even more incrementally via weight bracket, ie. 20-30t, 30-40t, 40-50t, 50-60t, etc, etc. This way mechs would FEEL armored again, feel like they have tones of protection, slow the pace back to something more battletech/MechWarrior AND stop the near instant shredding of some of the heaviest mechs known to lore ingame.
