Regarding artillery and airstrikes, why say:

"Here is a pro tip: Use them for when a light is capping your base on Alpine and save yourself a walk back to your spawn!"

When you need to walk back to your spawn to get LOS?

On many maps, you can get LoS on your base from some distance away (particularly Alpine Peaks).

If you are in a position to see your base, but 3 klicks out, you can still use that strike

There are many points on Alpine where that is possible.

It also doesn't actually kill the light AND can't cover the area of the cap point so it can just walk for a few seconds and be totally safe.

Yeah, it was false advertising.

Pretty much this ^

I don't see these as EVER being useful against a base capping light.

A base capping powered down atlas? MAYbe....

On maps like Caustic Valley and River Colony, there's a lot of pipes and oil wells or plumes of smoke and other things in the way to prevent direct LOS. Even River Colony has trees in the way. Then, there's elevation changes as well so you couldn't actually hit the base/capture area unless you're in a jump capable mech.

Then, considering that the airstrike automatically angles away from you but most teams end up facing off horizontally across the terrain means you'd have to run off to the side to get a proper shot along a mountain ridge.

Also, you can only zoom in so close so even the precision of an air or artillery strike is lacking.

The bigger problem is that even if you had LOS, it doesn't do enough damage to make even a Spider flinch.

Bet that pro works in the marketing dept. :)

The tip is based on his understanding of what devs briefed about the new feature.

I wonder if he even plays the damn game.

it deals 10 damage in a certain radius..which can be said...it can hit a light..and the radius can hit the light with a "splash range" so ifit does get hit..it hits several locations of the mech...like...the HEAD. how many armor points you put in those? ...right......

I'm actually totally okay with this. Airstrikes and artillery have been fun in exactly 0 multiplayer games I have ever seen them in.
