So the hardpoints on the Heavy Metal favor enemies who are savvy enough to shoot at the mech's left side. Ballastic weapon choices are currently limited, registering hits with them is more difficult than with lasers, and if your HM's left side gets trashed, ballastic is all you will have left.

This is decidedly un-heroic. wtf? How about moving one of those missile hardpoints to the other side of the torso?

If you keep your XL, losing your left side does more than take off most of your guns. It kills you outright. The more you know...

But having a completely empty left side lets you shield with it! Assuming a Standard Engine, and ditching the gauss rifle, you can lose two entire sections before sacrificing ANY combat effectiveness.

There's tradeoffs. You just need to find which options you prefer.

So what you're saying is may as well XL the darn thing and load it up with facepunch, then torso twist to take damage in the arms rather than the torsos.

AMAZING.

The thing that bugs me. Is that there isn't a good "casual" ballistic weapon. By that I mean something you can just throw on without hogging up too weight, slots, or generating a lot of heat. You'd think the AC/2 would sorta fit that, but it eats ammo, and generates a lot of heat when firing.

The ballistic spread is very tight.

Short of tossing an AC5, and a couple tons of ammo for it, your still looking at a significant investment.

And weighs six freaking tons.

Take away the JJ's for even more DHS/ammo if you don't like jumping. Absorb damage with your right arm and torso. Ammo is only in the left leg because obviously you will be tanking with your right side. Ammo in head is also obvious. Run with 9b9 and CS6 for even more fun.

The closest there is would be the AC/5 which can run for an entire match on ~2tons of ammo and generates less than 1heat/sec.
Of course it takes 4 slots, weighs 8 tons, and has the lowest DPS of any ballistic aside from the MG plus only does 5dmg/shell.

Yeah. So you're still using up quite a bit. Compared to just slamming in four medium lasers. Granted the heat is considerably higher.

Yup.
Kinda tempted to try 2 AC/5s on the hero highlander, and then some LPL/ML on the other arm and a pair of SRM6s or SSRM2s.

Well might as well backhand them with the lasers and you know...the actual hand.

HAND ACTUATOR is OP!

I love mine so far, done 700+ damage every match I have used it in and the tacky metal music on kill brings a smile to my face. Not to mention IT IS ACTUALLY A BRIGHT PINK... Not those crummy pinks we are offered for normal camo.

HEAVY METAL not so much firepower, but with the jjs and the max engine very mobile for 544 armor.

The go to weapon in BattleTech has always been the Medium Laser. If you notice most stock mechs have them and load up on them. Atlas has 4, as does the Catapult, and the Trebuchet has 3, while the Centurion sports 2 of them. Its rare you see mechs without them.

Ballistic weapons and Missiles define the Mech's primary role while medium lasers back it up.
