This is pretty much just darn smart marketing. Yes, more people will probably buy the Heavy Metal to get their Highlander fix early. No one is requiring them to do so, though. They could do like me and simply wait 2 bloody weeks.
Cheers PGI! The more money they make on Heros and Cosmetics, the less new avenues of monetization they need to find.

yes, this is the only reason they would waste time implementing it this patch as opposed to holding it and releasing it with the highlanders next patch. Big deal, people with cash get a new shiney toy, and those of us without get a new shiney target

So only reason to purchase is the hardpoints? and it costs ludicrous amounts of everything to do so? you know, im ok with this, I don't think it will happen but im ok with the idea

I'd rather see this system used instead of pay-to-win consumables or WoT style gold ammo. It's clearly an attempt to get more players to buy the mech. I have no interest in it though, I've been playing War Thunder because unlike MWO I'm actually having fun with that game. I'll still stick around MWO and drop occasionally but I don't expect MWO to be my primary game again until some issues like matchmaker weight class matching are fixed for small group drops.

That's exactly what they're doing - release the hero variant first so people who want to try it out pay for it.
Is that a problem? Not at all.
Two weeks is hardly a long time to wait for the standard variants to be available. The new mech isn't "better" than any others, it's just different. Not being able to have it sure makes you want it pretty badly, eh? This may push some people into buying it to try it out ASAP - or buying it to have something most other people won't.
The short time between the releases makes this probably the least offensive thing they could do to try to tempt you out of a few dollars - let's not forget this is a regular hero mech and gets the same benefits as the rest of the hero mechs. No reason to complain. This is just standard & friendly free-to-play business model

well, at least you seem to take a mature approach. If one is not having fun, play something that is. Shame so many people on these forums only seem happy if they are QQing on every bloody forum about how horrible and unfun things are.
Me? I'm not having fun tonight, dunno if its the new patch, the blasted bandwidth split all to heck at this starbucks or i need new drivers..... hope to find out more in the morning....

I dropped for a few but feel the same way - got my Muromets stuck in a match and didn't want to wait for it to free up. I'll let them sort it out before I play some more.

Well part of my approach is knowing that PGI isn't going to fix the issues overnight. I also lead a small corp so I can't exactly just quit the game and leave the rest of the group without a leader. I still drop at times but I admit I am trying to generate interest in War Thunder to keep the group active while few are wanting to log into MWO because of bugs that are preventing them from playing (seems to be the case for a few with this patch) or issues like the weight class matching in small group matches being totally broken.
