Hey all,
Check out any of my posts and you'll see I am an avid defender of the F2P model that we were promissed. I am firmly on the nerdrage side of the ongoing interview argument, too.
That said, I have been trying to figure ways they could generate money to help out since it is likely IGP has pocketed much of the founders money leaving PGI to generate money needed to develop the game.
One thing I came up with is releasing all mechs with a 2 week MC purchase price first. Reduced compared to the Hero mech variants but only available to MC purchasers that want a "Sneak Preview" at a mech and are willing to shell out a FEW bucks to directly support the development of the game.
2 weeks later it joins the regular CB purchasing system already in place.
There are a couple concerns that I would like to point out.
1- It could easily be a slippery slop and be applied to all aspects of the game causing people to sharpen those often used pitchforks.
2- It tempts the devs to keep money making mechs on the MC instead of changing it to CB as promised and as we've seen, it depletes the player base.
So, with some self restraint and adherence to the aforementioned concept, I would be OK with a "Sneak Preview" on incoming mechs to help fund this project.

Interesting concept, but too many players would regard this as P2W since those that can pay can aquire and level up hardware not yet available to the rest of the community i.e. people that want to play for free.. ..imagine players buying stalkers with MC and stomping over everything else lol.
That said, i would have no issues myself waiting patiently for two weeks to get a mech.. ..just gives me two more weeks to save up for the c-bills needed to outfit it to my liking... ...i wouldnt waste MC on a regular mech though.

It certainly isn't the golden apple solution that everyone would be happy with. It's a compromise to provide an income for PGI by the must haves players and people committed to supporting the project. Your points are valid.

I like the current system with the new hero, not convinced that it'll translate well to all mechs, though. That may be a step too far. Perhaps it would be OK if MC prices were a bit more reasonable, but as it stands, most people won't buy them- the ones who will have already bought Heavy Metal.

That is an apple that would be hard to find - anything that invovles money is likely to irk someone somewhere down the line lol!
On Dr Killingers post, i think it is interesting what they have done with the Heavy Metal hero mech, i see this as similar to what the OP has suggested - wether or not they make this a standard procedure is yet to be seen, although from my perspective i would be more inclined to buy a hero mech that is available 2 weeks before other variants than a regular chassis - 30% C-Bill boost for the two week i have to wait.. ..question is if you regard that as pay to win based on my comment above..

P2W for 2 weeks is the trade off on a system like this. Can we stomach this for this title to generate much needed cash? I can. No biggie. I also think the Heavy Metal is an interesting prospect but the values they are attaching to mechs in real money has turned me off spending anything at this time.
