Hello there,
I was wondering what your expectations regarding sound and special effects are with regard to MechWarrior Online:
Will it be likely that we will have different sounds for every weapon group that is used (rattling machine guns, different sizzles of lasers and PPC based on the energy amounts used, different roars of autocannons based on the calibre size and firing technology, different thundering sounds based on rocket types and amounts launched from the mech, etc.)?
Will walking or running pace be acoustically be differentiated, also with respect to the environmental conditions (e.g. splashing in water, crunching in forests, smacking in swampy/muddy territory, grinding noise in desert landscapes) and all explosions on the battlefield sound the same (reactor fusion similar to ammunition explosion)?
How do you imagine will jump jets sound like when fired and will there be a difference depending on the amount of jump jets equipped on a mech/jump capacity?
Will there be different audio signals for critical mech temperature/overheating, for mech ammo depletion, for heat sink coolant depletion, for jump fuel depletion, for jammed or damaged mech weapons, or for loss of gyroscope balance (failed pilot skill roll)?
Would you like to receive a brief audio signal for each enemy mech kill during combat that is accredited to you?
If melee combat will be implemented, would you like to have different close combat attacks (punch, kick, ram, jump, stab, etc.) to be indicated with different sounds when successful/not dodged?
Do you think there will be different sounds once your mech or nearby environment gets hit by different weapons?
With regard to special effects, do you think there will be different scales of explosions, also depending on the environment in which they take place (e.g. reactor explosion in a shallow lake resulting in large vapour cloud to rise by contrast to a forest where the surrounding trees will be blown away and some of them will catch fire and burn to the ground)?
How do you think will the impact of weapons on your mech be simulated in terms of special effects (for example, shaking/blurring of screen/instruments, force feedback shock, flashes or cracks on mech display, sparking wires or smoke appearing in the cockpit blocking part of the sight, and large dust clouds around the mech if the pilot loses the balance and the mech falls to the ground)?
These are just a few questions associated with sound and special F/X .... I am looking forward to your answers!

What Sound and Special F/X to expect in MechWarrior Online!

I'd like to see something along the lines of MWLL. The sounds in the mod are pretty beastly.

We've heard a little bit of the sounds from the videos released. They seem a little muted, but they're not terrible. I'm hoping for a big, noisy, stompy sound, with every step and weapon fired having a satisfying "whoomp" to it. Mechwarrior 3 was pretty good at this: When an Annihilator let loose with its ballistics in that game, I would crap my pants.
EDIT: Just found this, for your listening pleasure. Better than the impression I had gotten from trying to hear over Paul, music, et cetera. =)

Thanks for the weblink, the in-game sound quality in this video is much better than in all the other videos provided here on the MW:O website.

One thing I would like along these lines for effects is 5.1 positional sound.
Being able to hear exactly where your enemy is, even when not looking at him, is priceless.
This is strictly about immersion, being in the mech.
A proper surround setup has to be in this game, it's pretty standard, I want my subwoofer to vibrate my floor as if giant mechs are walking around my room.
Tell me you got 5.1 sound incorporated PGI, plz?
