I've been waiting for a Hero Hunchback (I love Hunchbacks and I have just enough MC left for a 50-ton Hero) and with my luck the first Champion Mech will be a Hunchback and thus worthless to me.

This might mean that champion = XP mech, hero = cbills mech, but on it's own I don't think that champs would be really worth it. I would not be at all surprised if the champ mechs get a little cbill boost as well (5-10%) by the time they are released.
And are we thinking custom skins? I think I am.
Edit: Unless i have misunderstood the announcement of course. I do that sometimes too.

I am totally down with putting lots of little MC upgrades on my favored mechs. I'm not really down with buying yet another atlas that¨s exactly like the others, but has a custom decal, and that's it.

Take the double XP weekend for example, now out of all the mechs in my hangar I have elited/mastered most of them and have no reason to "grind" them anymore thanks to, effectively, being incentivized to play half as much to do so!
Obviously, I like the game in general but with the XP incentive removed I am less inclined to play the "arena modes" currently present.
Still, yet another thing re XP bonus being odd is I am highly unlikely for the above reasons to ever wish to convert XP to GXP for MC when I could simply play the game in the mechs I require XP for.
Very odd.

No, and that's why I'd be down with upgrading it forever. PGI gets my money, and I have a use for my MC.
The DDC has been neutered by the Missile Balancing. It was a force of relentless destruction. Now its just a bad Atlas with ECM.
The RS now is the scourge upon the enemy team.

I can tell you from 9 months in all the various atlases that this isn't true, but will be if they lock ECM in a stupid spot, like the ballistic torso.

Apart from ECM, the DDCs main advantage has always been the 3rd missile HP. And this advantage has diminished greatly.
The DDC no longer has the burst to end a fight quickly, once it is in range for its SRM array. And thus builds that favour sustained dps - like the RS - got a lot stronger in comparison. If ECM is not needed, my Atlas of coice is now the RS.
