Legs are for heatsinks? Let me know when you can fit a DHS in a leg and we'll talk. My Jagermechs always die to CT or side torso death (for the ones using an XL) and it's never the legs. While you're shooting my legs I'm shooting your CT, how is that going to work out for you?

I will go for legs when I'm flanking someone who has a stripped leg (and it doesn't hurt to test-fire their leg to check for thier leg armor levels!), but if I'm fighting head-on, legs are poor target and even if they have ammo in the leg, there is no guarantee of a kill. Your CT will kill you no matter what you have or have not put in there.

Why heat sinks of course!
You know, to cool those weapons that are going off 20M or so above them. What! You say DHS takes 3 spaces and legs have only two? use single HS or leave the spots empty dernnabit!

and the second ammo has to be stored in places it can actually blow up suddenly ACs are dropped from every build.

Opens up new balancing options, me thinks.
Or maybe I'm just overly optimistic about game balancing?

Risk: can make you go boom
Reward: more dakka (dps, alpha, damage per heat, whatever)

Nothing bad in my book.

People not only like to store ammo in the legs...they also like to strip armour off of there...well, usually for more ammo.

Your horizontal traverse speed does already vary with slope steepness.....

Really? Try this in game. Run up a slope in game and keep an eye on your speed readout. What happens?

Now picture a 80 robot trying to do the same in real life. My guess is that it will be further hindered. This is reflected in the TT rules too (running up or down slopes slows mechs down as does running through forests, rough ground and water and it can even fall over it it gets it wrong).

Its in CANON therefore it is fair game

What does Canon have to do with it? Whats cannon about double armour, 1.4 DHS, weapons that fire 3 times faster? MWO has repeatedly thrown out canon as a reason to do stuff. Also take a look at that 9M. It has thighs that any Russian Shotputter would envy. You could drive a bus up them, let alone crank some measly SSRM2's up them.

game

Dont get your argument, if that were the case and this is just a "game" then why strive for graphical realism? Why bother having rules about customisation, weapons ranges, heat, damage?

Oh right, because this "Game" is meant to be one about the MW universe.

Sometimes i run into walls, and that readout doesn't change. This argument is invalid.

Or how the jetpacks you put into your legs, which use the surplus plasma from your reactor

Actually they carry tanks of reaction mass.

I do it and I feel not one bit guilty about it either because I could do it in tabletop as long as it was no more than two location away from its gun I think :).

I think that was probably a house rule.

Are people really debating ammo feed realism in a FICTIONAL game that takes place 1000 years from now with weapons technology nowhere near as good as a 20th century tank?

In TT there are several variants with ammo in the legs. Its not straying from canon or anything. besides, the most you can put is 4 tons. those double AC/10 builds run out of ammo before half the match is over. And if it really annoys you OP, just shoot the legs (which most people under-armor anyways) and laugh mercilessly as they gimp around with no ammo.

You can put ammo where ever I already provided evidence. Take time to read a thread and you will see.

I don't get it, if you don't want to store ammo in the legs no one is forcing you to... oh wait you want to force other people to not put ammo there. Thankfully not going to happen so no biggie. Nothing forces you to put ammo in a smart location so feel free to be realistic and get blown up.

Battletech universe. Mechwarrior takes place in the BattleTech universe.

And you can't argue both sides of the canon argument to support the same idea without labeling yourself an *****.

Sorry, that was unclear. I was suggesting that the "within two locations" limit was probably a house rule. If it's ever been an official rule, then I've somehow missed it for over 20 years.

Forget ammo in the legs. . .

Try fitting 1,000 - 2,000 rounds of guided missiles ANYWHERE in an upright walker. . . along with a magical feed system that reloads multiple 15 or 20 pack launchers in seconds.

Really guys. . . ammo in the legs is the least of the realism problems the game has. Just accept it as a game and move on.
