So you dont see many 4H hunchbacks out there, Usually becasue the 4SP is functionally the saem but without the right torso being so vulnerable. I am founder and i remember in closes beta days when the 4H was a trial mech, and i remember having so much fun it it, and it looks pretty cool too.

So i tried to remake one and this is what I came up with. With the recent bugg to small pulse lasers, there surprisigly useful if you have a bunch on, so thats what I did. its a lot of fun, sending swarms of missiles and rapid fire and damaging red laser light at people.

Is it optimized, no, probably not, but it is stil fun and feels very battletech like to me, like its more like what i imagine a mech to be like instead of this max/min assualt fest its evolved into. Anyways thoughts ?? im just curious what yall think

A missile hunchie cannot compare with a ballistic hunchie, it's accuracy vs damage and spread. Also, SRMS suck right now. I used the 4H instead of the 4G and it is very fun, I used either AC/20, GR or AC/10. Also, that loadout had LRM ammo but no LRMs.

I was just thinking about trying an LRM-30 4J Hunch. In order to make it work, it needs an XL, which conventional wisdom says is a no-no with Hunchies but, in all honesty, if you lose that torso you're left with 2 medium lasers at best.

I haven't had the courage to do it yet, though.

The J was fun in CB. The H is the ballistic version though. With the AC10. Problem is it also adds the extra lasers to the same torso.

Having just elited hunchbacks this week, what I can say is the 4j worked really well as a lrm support mech.

Ran it with one lrm 15 with arty, and 4 med lasers. Largest Standard engine for survivability. It's speed allowed me to always be in position to support the front line. 4 Med lasers were great when lights thought they had an easy lrm boat to take on.

Was not a mech for those who are impatient. Was great though to lob lrms over the head of an atlas a few hundred meters in front of me and to scare away any lights that came a calling.

The 4H is pretty good. It's pretty much a 4G with extra lasers

I think the OP was singling out the wrong mech - the H variant is one of the better ones, IMHO. You can put in a solid ballistic weapon and a mix of energy weapons, and then change it up the next game with a pair of PPC's in the hunch. While the weapon pod is a weakness compared to the SP, the H is a good mech. I have one - 3 medium lasers, an AC10, 225 standard engine. It's not amazing, but it more than holds its own and will sometimes do stupidly well in a match, which is pretty good for a medium these days.

As for the Hunchback J, I think I've only seen them in odd LRM configurations, and that's about it. Not a bad use for the mech, though a Trebuchet could do most of that better, I suspect.

Oh ya , lol i got the variant wrong I do mean the 4J, anyways, Im usually hesitand to use a build with a massive range difference in the weapons. small pulse lasers arent even effective past 180 metres ( LRM minimun range) the original build i made had an lrm5 and lrm10 in place of them but it was difficult to get into a high damage optimun range. plus this is my last Hunchie i need to level up for elites. Dunno which variant im ultimatly going to settle on. Maybe just be a trend breaker and use the 4J model for those weird looks i probably get from people

The 4H is the 4G but better, since more than one ballistic slot is a joke unless you're 65+ tons, but the 4H gets lazors.

The 4J, the one you actually meant to discuss can indeed carry one laser more than the 4SP, which is nice, but not really worth being so vulnerable. It also doesn't help that (as of the last time I checked) even though the model has 20 missile tubes, you only actually get ten, so any LRMs you use on it will come out in smaller volleys and get shot down by AMS.

It does look really cool though, you are correct about that.

Well, there is one reason I like the 4G. My "Tripple Deuce" :) 3 A/C2s and 3MLasers. Also, a dual UAC5 isn't bad (maybe better than the 3 A/C 2s). I suppose if you were going to go with just one ballistic, the 4H does sound more rounded.
