So, I just got Mechwarrior 4 working on my computer again, and playing it has brought back a lot of memories, along with the exact mechs and their load outs I used, way back when.

Anyways, now I'm curious about the Thanatos. I know very little of BattleTech, which I'm hoping to remedy soon, but is the Thanatos a popular mech, either in BattleTech or for players? I've always found it to be very capable mech, with good armor and lots of Ballistic/Energy weapon hardpoints.

Basically, I'd like to know, is this an accurate portrayal of it's abilities, did it get tweaked for MW4, or is it simply the fact I'm using it against crappy AI? Also, do you think it's likely the Thanatos will be added to MWO?

Again, just curious about the mech. I know I'm a relative newbie with BattleTech/MechWarrior, so try not to flame me =/

The year is 3049, but the Thanatos won't be produced till 3061, it won't be showing up any time soon:

OP, I'm waiting for the Thanatos as well. It might be a bit of a wait, but well worth it.

No big, 99% of the people here don't know about the master unit list.

You won't see most of MW4 Mechs in the next 10/15 years.

Thanatos and bushwacker was my mech of choice and I seriously hope they can get these in soon as hell!!

The Bushwacker might actually happen in a reasonable time frame. There were prototypes of the Bushwacker on the field during the Clan Invasion, but I believe that the lore says the prototypes had some sort of technical problems that were difficult to solve.

Hahah, the Thanatos in MW4... Who could forget the memorable jolly little run animation it had. It kind of bounded across the terrain. Sort of like the Dragon in MWO, maybe because the leg mechanics were somewhat similar and the torso was portly in stature.

Both MW4 and MWO are based in universe where Thanatos mech exists, so why not talk about it here? Should most likely exist in some other part of this forum, but not my problem.

I've liked it quite a bit in MW4 and on tabletop, and It's not a bad mech at all. On tabletop reasonably fast pulse laser mech with jumpjets is quite decent IMO, it can hide when it loses initiative, and when it wins initiative, it has decent chance to jump behind opponent at short range. Pulse laser to-hit bonus helps to offset jump to-hit penalties, so they work rather well together. I personally liked to customize my Thantos on tabletop with a pair of SRM launchers instead of MRM and upgrade medium lasers to pulse, but stock build is not that bad either.

In MW4 I recall enjoying full 360 torso twist and easily protected center torso. But MW4 was always sniperfest, so ofcourse far from stock loadout there.

It is one of the best looking battlemech designs IMO (just give her a female nickname), not counting some unseens ofcourse.
