Been playing for a little while. Own a cata-k2 that started off as a gausspult and eventually made it into a brawler with 2x ac10's and mlasers, with an xl300 engine. So I like brawlers. I wanna get a hero mech to help me make the cbills but I don't know which one to get. Heavy Metal looks like great fun but...it's pretty expensive. The dragons look fun but I heard they are really squishy. Don't know too much about any of the others. Any advice?

CTF-IM is probably the best choice in heroes

Ilya Murometz is the closest to P2W mech out there. ;)

Ilya Muromets is your best choice right now.

Would have been nice if you got a chance to buy the Flame. Great brawler and it was on sale recently.

As everyone is saying though, best bet is in the Muromets.

Another vote for the Ilya.

Mainly because while the PB and HM are decent mechs (HM moreso than PB), both are significantly more expensive. Flame is decent, but suffers from the standard "too light/odd shaped to brawl, inefficient when fast" issue that all dragons have. Fang is like that, but with a worse hard point set up.

X5 is ok if you want a fast mover hero, and certainly a better option than the DK. Obviously both the X-5 and DK are in a completely different category than the heavies and assaults.

Ilya is easily the best brawler of the available Hero chassis. Dragons are not made for the brawl and will disappoint you every time if you try to play them like a Catapult or a Cataphract. Or a JagerMech, but then JagerMechs are weird anyways. Ilya, on the other hand, can mount a dizzying array of different ballistic weapons that allow it to tailor itself to any gun-happy pilot's tastes. Configurations with dual Gauss rifles and triple Ultra AC/5s are popular, though the latter is becoming less so now that the JagerMech is here and pretty much purpose-built for it. I've seen successful builds with multiple LBX shotguns though, and the 'Mech's default armament isn't actually all that bad.

It is a cannon-jockeys-only sort of machine, though. Its beam hardpoints are there pretty much strictly as backups for its cannons, and its missile armament isn't. Ilya likes big guns, and she cannot lie.

Flame or Ilya. Ilya has more raw firepower potential, but Dragons are a ton of fun for some people.

I'll probably buy a Ilya if it ever goes on sale. I bought the Yen-Lo Wang when it went on sale a while back and it's loads of fun. I've been playing with a Cataphract-4X and it's pretty good. I sure would like to try the 3xUAC5 loadout, though.

Wow, didn't expect such a unanimous choice. Anyone know any good non-uac5 builds for the ilya? I have the worst luck with jamming and I don't wanna use a macro

I'd go with the Ilya. The Flame probably looks like a good choice, but dragons aren't brawlers, they're strikers.

IIya is the best, but for a cheaper the yen-lo-weng is a good brawler. Flame is also a good choice.

Muromets hero mech, best hero mech.

Oh, and alternative loadouts:

2xAC10 + 3xMPL
3xAC5 + 3xMPL
3xAC2 + 2x(ER)PPC

I guess what I'm trying to say is: there are options, but none of them are as OP as the 3xUAC build. I personally run it with a 320XL and it rocks!

Hmm...flame with a 360xl and 2 ppc/2mlas sounds really fun too. ARRRG decisions decisions...

True. It's the only one that can fit 3 Gauss rifles. Not even Jagers can do this.

I really like the Flame, it's nothing at all like non-hero Dragons and plays closer to an oversize hunchie 4SP.

Ilya is a workhorse that can brawl or snipe very well.
