I was wondering, I remember in Mech assault 2 the online had a conquest thing where you join a clan and you take over planets to control the galaxy online. I never got to play it because they took down original xbox servers before I got xbox live, but I have always wanted to try something like it.
this gamemode would add more meaning to clans and have some other strategy instead of just matches like world of tanks just repeating battles. But I imagine something like this would take forever to develop so I can wait, but its just a suggestion.

I never actually got Mech Assault 2 but i just googled it, and i agree wholeheartedly. Especially since the devs are trying to match up the timeline with the clan invasion so its got time to be developed. This would give it a little boost here in the near future that I think the MW series seriously needs. Good idea Mr Person!

devs control the factions and all lore units. mercs can hold certain facilities/planets but over all everything is controlled by devs and who holds what will be altered as the timeline progresses.

so there wont be any freedom to take stuff over? it will all be pre determined? I know devs control a game, but it should be like EVE in a sense, have a few planets that are restricted to that faction that cannot be taken over, and a whole bunch of planets that are free for alls

I think this is the MWO default. Battle outcomes define who owns the planets. Factions fighting against factions.

We already have this thing in the MW:O.
Factional warfare, it was a topic of 2nd Dev Blog I think.

there is the Meta game , mostly some things can be won or taken over others not, we still have a lot we dont know.
But the devs made it clear we wont change the history of the mechwarrior universe.

I, for one, hope this game is nothing like MechAssault 2 in any shape or form.

Planetside 2 is offering a similar feature of persistent online gameplay. Each planet maybe provides your faction with some bonus (c-bills, weapon development, black market, cheaper repairs, etc) and then if somebody wants to take it back, then they fight for it. Problem I see is what if one side gets too strong and overwhelms another faction.

If there is ever a Planetary League of the sort that NBT-Mercs/HC was, then what you want will be possible - and it will be waaaay better than that farce, MechAssault.

This is exactly what I was thinking. If MW:O borrowed some of the Planetside features when it comes to control of the galaxy, that would be really cool. To balance it out though, couldn't the Devs just give bigger rewards to Mercs fighting for losing/less powerful factions? I thought thats what they were doing anyway, but maybe I just imagined it I dunno.
