We've had thousands of topics on the issue of ECM and their respective mech nerfs.

But I've just had brainwave on the issue: Make the ECM bubble visible on the minimap.

Update its location once every 3-5 seconds, so you can't track the exact location of the mech.

This is the kind of thing that doesn't help high skill players as much; but is a great assistance to low and medium skill players - just a UI adjustment that helps make what's happening on the battlefield that much more clear and explicit - i.e. there's an ECM mech around you, and it's interferring with your coms. He's in this general vicinity.

From a lore pseudo tech POV/, it makes sense as well; radar systems should be able to spot interference even if it can't pinpoint the exact location of the interference.

I was thinking that might be a use for BAP, but in a way wouldn't that really negate the entire 'cloaking' effect?

PPC hit requires you to cycle a shutdown/startup the only nerf that will truly balance ECM, still allows it to be used for scouting and hidden movement but becomes entirely useless during large fights unless you avoid fire. Instead of you know making LRM/SSRM useless for every fight.

ECM shouldn't stack. I don't mind the bubble, but if it's ganna be a bubble it shouldn't stack. That way when 4 cowardly ravens tap dance their way over to another light or assault who brought ECM and has streaks on-board, he can actually set it to counter and put those friggin things to use.
Good-bye 4-man raven groups.
That's what it needs.
Period.

Out of all the matches I've dropped in my 3L, I don't think I can recall a single one where the times I had more than one other 3L with me was a premade. 3Ls and 2Ds just have brainwave chemistry, we communicate telepathically without words. I guess it is true what they say: birds of a feather really do flock together.

And if they're all painted in black/white with Dazzle pattern... still telepathy?

This reminds me of the 'Gap Generator' in Red Alert. You'd obscure your forces from view on the map, but you'd leave an obvious black spot that would tell alert players that there was in fact a Gap Generator hiding something there (which could be anything from just the gap generator or an entire army). Not entirely a bad idea, but I'd rather limit it such that the bubble only appears at a certain distance.
