So i think that a replay ability for matches would be great. You could record epic fights from across the innersphere! Especially if they had an easy way to upload to popular sites like youtube. Here's a list of features i think would make for a great replay camera ability thingy:

- record entire matches
- instant upload and sharing abilities
- ability to crop/splice/sew pieces of footage together with music and titles etc.
- flying camera to set up the perfect angles also with zoom and shader abilities
- pause/slow motion/rewind capabilites
-also posting straight to Merc Corps for recruiting or entertainment purposes

So what do you think? Good idea?

Sounds like great stuff, but I wouldn't want them to delay the launch of the game to get it in. Maybe add it in later as part of a patch/update.

The other thing is to make sure it doesn't put a noticeable performance hit upon the matches. It it adds detectable lag, leave it out.

Maybe also a "spectator mode" like on MW 4 for clan wars. Just a little bit more comfortable and with more options than in MW 4 Mercs.

Maybe down the line, if this were implemented, the developers could even add a repository where people could upload their clips and recordings for others to view.

I'd rather use Fraps or a similar third party utility rather than have programming resources pulled for them trying to add native capabilities.

The problem with Fraps is that it only makes your point of view availible. I would appreciate something like the BattleRecorder system in Battlefield 2.

Lets keep the alarmist attitudes to a minimum, please. It seems like for every game that is in development there is someone that says, "Don't bother with X, because then all development power will go towards X and everything else will suffer!" That's not how game development works.

Actually, it's not all that far from the truth. Not because "all development power will go towards X...", but rather because there are a finite number of resources that can be brought to bear upon a project. Prioritizing and pruning features to get the best bang for the buck is just wise business.

For worthwhile lessons, refer to The Parable of Jane's A-10 and Flight Sim Development

That's true, but at the same time no one is saying that this needs to be implemented immediately. The developers seem to be adamant about supporting this game for years to come, so hopefully they will be able to fit something like this in at some point.

Nice feature - like in racing sims. But I think Fraps and Youtube can help here, can't they?

I say yes.

And add that they should take a look at how CoH does it (that is City of Heroes, the original CoH, and not Company of Heroes which came out later).

CoH's "Demo Recorder" is really good and the only thing it really does is create a text file with all the info. And when used you can replay the entire recording in the game engine. And since it is a text fil, it is possible to edit it, which would result in the changes you made showing in the video when you replay it.

If you check out the link I added and read it, make sure to read the section called "Creating Custom Movies", becase that really shows just how powerful of a tool the CoH's Demo Recorder is. Granted, it's not as easy to use as what I have seen on youtube with games like Halo or other FPS's with simmilar recording styled features. But if you know what your doing, you can basicly edit everything in the game, locations of characters, movement, combat, changing effects, including camera movement etc. It is a very powerful tool for making Machinima. Here is a good example of what you can create if you know what your doing: Night Prayer

Edit: Granted, you would need to use a regular video recording program to actually capter the video. But maybe MWO could include both some kind of regular video capture... and something simmilar to the Demo Recorder so you could have compleat control over it, and creat detailed awesome Machinimas. :)

Yes, we need replays.
