It's actually quite simple. This variant-mod is designed to embody what the stock variant could have been with proper technology installed.

1. Remove six heat sinks, so that only three exist outside the engine;
just trust me, this makes more sense with step 2.
2. Give it Endo steel and DHS. Replace the 3 heat sinks removed from the upgrade. (Yes, I know, expensive.)
3. Give it 336/338 Armor.
4. Replace its STD 200 engine with a STD 255.
5. Replace the head's Small laser with a Medium Laser.
6. Add two more tons of SRM ammo for good measure.

The variant is better in every way, and still resembles the original; More ammo, more armor, (much) more movement speed, (slightly) more firepower, and better heat efficiency.

Just figured I'd share this with you all.

This is what I do. I like having big std engine hunchies. Theyre fun. Its a shame the 4SPs heavy hitting SRMs got nerfed to a point of almost uselessness though!

Yeah, cutting the firepower of the SRM's nearly in half wasn't very pleasant...

Clearly you cannot into 4sp its is by far one of the best mechs in the game with with its stock config for new players once you go DHS ENDO and a 260 its one of the best med's in the game period.
As others have mentioned the srm nerf really kills it, but thats temporary I hope.

Wait... was he saying what I'm suggesting isn't possible? Because the SP sitting in my mechbay with its 255 STD engine and maximum armor begs to differ.

The Hunch suffers from the same problem all mediums do, lack of weight balancing

I'm glad this is a build thread and not the type with people crying their SP needs buffs.
Pre-SRM nerf it was the strongest variant because of its excellent hardpoint layout. And while the SRM nerf was too extreme, at the end of the day, they need to find a happy medium for damage. It was too strong before because SRMs and its too weak now because of SRMs.

The other HBKs are the ones that really need some love (except the 4P, which is fine)

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'd like to see the SRM6 re-buffed to 12 damage as opposed to the original 15 and the current 9... But it's no use b*tching about it until the dev's play the game and see the error of their ways for themselves.

I dont know. I think he was saying its hard to improve because its already the best. I really cant tell what that first sentence is supposed to be so I can say for sure. Also, I just tested this build in training grounds and...

WTF is wrong with the Hunchback's convergence?!?! Why hasnt this been fixed yet?

I don't really have a problem with accuracy in this variant... what was happening?

I'm running a quite similar build, but since the (temporary, I hope) srm nerf I've changed the 2*srm6 to 2*2ssrm, this gives me enough tonnage for a 260 std, 5 mlasers and an AMS. Oh, the chassis is fully mastered, so I am running at 92,7 kph

This should probably get moved over to the Battlemechs forum so it doesnt get confused with an emorage thread. Generally very good build, one thing I'd add is while DHS definitely helps it's not strictly necessary to run a good 4SP and one of the things I like most about the chassis is you can get very good performance on a budget. Most mechs can't say that.
