Any know which ones are from the actual fiction?

The only really "famous" hero mech atm is the Yen-Lo-Wang. Never heard of any of the other ones.

That raises another question. Is it canon there were many yen lo wangs produced?

Well the YLW and Heavy Metal are both canon hero mechs, the rest are not. However the loadout for Heavy Metal has never been specified to the best of my knowledge so PGI made their own loadout.

Not quite true. There are canonical variants of both the Death's Knell and Pretty Baby, though neither 'Mech is explained well enough to translate their loadouts into canonical MWO configurations. Both also use technology unavailable to their original canon sources, which sorta shoots down their actual canonicity, but there is a Death's Knelle and a Pretty Baby in the lore. Somewhere.

Fang, Flame, and Muromets are pure fabrications, however. Not that this is really a bad thing, given that the entire franchise can also be described as a pure fabrication. Heh, who's to say that PGI's Hero characters weren't out there somewhere at some point, eh?

Pretty Baby's pilot was as well. Danielle Peterson of Chisolm's Raiders is in the 3025 technical readout. However other than she was an incredible awesome pilot there was nothing specific on her vehicle.

Many canon "heroes" never actually had customized battlemechs, of course that can always be retconned.

As far as hero 'mech configurations in MWO, Catalyst Game Labs BattleTech developers consider the hero 'mech configurations as apocryphal (just like the other MechWarrior games), with the exception being the Yen Lo Wang, to an extent (the real YLW had either a hatchet or claw in the hand arm and a standard 200 fusion engine, later being upgraded to have a Gauss rifle in place of an AC/20, and replacing the center torso lasers with 3 medium pulse lasers).

I know I heard of the Death's Knell before. YLW is cannon, so is Heavy Metal.
i know the Ilya is complete fabricated. I am sure the two dragons are too. Probably the X5 too.

I think Pretty Baby pilot is cannon, but I do not recall the mech itself being described anywhere.
