so just as an example, we have artillery strikes in mwo, and mw has mech mounted arty called long toms.

hows it work? just like world of tanks arty, you hit a key and setup, imobile, and using the map view like B to sight in on where you want to drop the tom shell, max range, say half the biggest map.

scouts locking guys spot them just like for sharing lrm locks so you can fire way out there, limited use as a snub nose gun in self defense if you get rushed.

i wants me long toms!

People would figure out where (and with which mech) they can aim at the sky and hit the objective from across the map (or at least a great distance).

not with a world of tanks style aiming system, you deploy the mech by setting the legs with a key, and the gun deploys its barrel and prepares to fire on the grid location of your choice in range. if you just aim up and fire in snub nose mode god only knows what it will hit, think ac 20 aimed more then 1k away with random directional falling added to shell.

... won't do any damage.
PGI already told community couple times, they are not going to add LongTom's into MWO. That's it.

MWLL handled Long Toms very well...

LTs did devastating damage, but had almost zero armour, they were slow to drive them into position, they had to be deployed in order to fire, and they couldn't fire from within their starting base. They could only see targets when an ECM-equipped Mech up front had a target on radar.

In this way, they were very well balanced. Light Mechs could zip through enemy lines and kill the Long Tom fairly easily. But the Long Tom was very useful against Mechs camping out and using their radars to lock LRMs onto enemies.

Immobile artillery mechs wouldn't be game breaking due to the slooooow shell travel time.

At medium+ ranges even 50kph assaults could get out of harms way in time. However it would ruin any camping snipers day pretty fast.

Also given the fact that you are immobile all the time while you are deployed for long range fire, LongTom mechs would be easy kills.

And don't even get me started on the heat management & the sheer weight of those cannons...

exactly, at cannon weight crits and heat, theyre not going to be abuseable, but very usefull for disrupting camps, shooting people standing in cap zones, ect.

Just like they said no 3rd person, no coolant flush, and no items you can not get by just playing the game and not spending any real world money?

Do Long-Toms bring any money features to the game?

Oh hang on they do...

**** I can't really think of a reason not to other than they won't add any money skill to the game.

We lack mechs capable of mounting that.

Now, if you found a way to make Arrow 4 work, then that would be a different story.

Indirect fire is too hard for the stupids to understand, don't get your hopes up unless PGI wants to charge MC for them.

The whines about LRMS would fail next to the ones about the Long Tom.
