Finding the right game balance is an ongoing battle, and there has been no shortage of discussion on how certain weapons/equipment/build types/ etc... have an effect on it. I believe we are missing out on the biggest issue of balance, far larger than any of the above: Teamwork. It is very OP right now and we need to do something about it. Most of the games I have played are pretty lopsided, where one side stomps the other. The culprit is, more often than not, a team which communicates and works together to accomplish their goal. This presents a horrendous disadvantage to the opposing force, so I suggest PGI break out teh nerf bat and fix it. Here are some suggestions:
  • Have random artillery strikes at points where Mechs are clustered, this will prevent them from sticking together
  • If a team is communicating in chat too much, disrupt (turn off) their chat communications temporarily
  • NEVER implement in game VOIP
  • When several mechs focus fire on one opposing mech, give that mech an invulnerability shield for a time (30 seconds?), or better yet, a damage reflect shield!
I am interested in how we can battle this horrible game balance breaking phenomenon, please post your suggestions!

I think that mechs should have to carry a "Chat Console" to be able to use the chat function or third-party VOIP. I believe that having the Chat Console weigh 10 tons, take up 7 crit slots, and generate 5 heat per second would be a good balance point.

How about a random reactor explosion if you use the chat to much - but only if there are no enemies in range?

If you did that every good player would have one on their mech and it would still be OP.

You lose C-bills for doing anything other than a Leeroy Jenkins charge. That should nerf Teamwork.

This thread made me realize I want to be able to shoot robots with robot sized nerf guns.

Even those would be more useful then machine guns.

We need to nerf cats, they're just too cute to resist! They hard-counter my heart before I get a chance to react.

All weapons do their stated damage to all friendly mechs w/in 100m of whoever fired it, that should keep teamwork to a minumum!

First I was like "Is he an i.d.i.o.t?" (because you can't say it without the periods, apparently)

Then I kept reading, and realized you're hilarious.

I think the ideas are bad, I don't want random airstrikes to change the pace of the game or punish those who have patience.

How do you disrupt VOIP when the game has none - would you like MWO devs to spend their time hacking the major VOIP programs?

Invulnerability is too close to power ups for my taste.

A Damage Reflect Shield will be Angel ECM. Just wait, it'll happen.
