for this reason alone i'd like to nominate the basic rifleman as the starter mech...preferably with dodgy heatsinks and low AC/5 ammo, nothing in this game system is going to teach you fire control quicker than an overheat or two...with the possible exception of a full meltdown.


Which is why the Jenner which is already nominated to be in the game is the perfect mech to start with. It only has 10 heat sinks - and yet has Jump 5, and SRM 4 and 4 Medium Lasers. Which means it's overheated as soon as it fires more than 3 weapons and does anything else. If it jumps and fires all 5 weapon systems (20 heat) it will be extremely close to shutting down. You could technically, possibly get away with firing all weapons and jumping twice - but - you will have a mandatory shutdown without an override at that point. (Because you can only cool down 10 at a time).
