let me reinterate children....

I am NOT talking about the high end desktop...computer/mecha geek world that ALREADY can play this game...That is about 10 to 20 percent of the PC world out there...

What I am talking about is the 80 percent of normal graphic cards that are on LAPTOPS....its those laptops that are the new normal...heck...desktops are rapidly going the way of the dinosaur...in fact most pc designers are moving rapidly to mirroring the IPAD environment...

So when you build a game designed to work only on a small percentage of the working real computers out there...you define a mickey mouse niche game playing to a dedicated...abet obsessive...but miniscule total market...

The ONE and ONLY way to avoid this guaranteed path of failure is to bundle in a low end base IN ADDITION to the HIGH END that is already in the game...

Other\wise this is and always be a tiny niche game...

And yours truely desparately WANTS a decent mecha game....that has a wide player base because I loved StarLance play in MW3 and that MMP mecha experience in Chromehounds....

Both games were the closest that Mecha has come to breaking into mainstream...because both could be played on a huge base of EXISTING pc's and gaming computers..

Gee...I thought that was simple stufff...

You are very misinformed, desktops are not going anywhere (at least in the near future), laptops just can't compete performance-wise yet. Also have you read any of the responses pointing out that you do not need to spend 2-3 thousand dollars for a laptop with a dedicated graphics card? Seriously go look at HP or Sony for example. Yeah if you go to a "fancy" "computer builder" like Alienware, you are going to spend a lot of extra money.

Thats fine and all, but you need to make sure the OP gets that because that is all he has been doing from the start.

Why not both? Especially considering the tone and the fact he's been attacking everyone as well.

Hey guys, I am just here to keep the peace and remind everyone to play nice. I didn't see any CoC violations in the OP. Maybe I missed it. Report the post if you feel that I did. So we can get a fresh set of eyes on it.

But, I do see some stuff later on that I felt the need was warranted to come in here and remind everyone to be chill..!

Two points.

For 2-3 grand you could buy 3-4 high end Gaming rigs in today's market.

Really? 80% of the Market. How low should they go? Should little Billy in his Moms basement on a 5 years old laptop over a 56K modem be accounted for?

It would seem prudent to await the next Patch to see if they have found the cause of this current anomaly. When they do, you will no longer be in the poor 80% tile any further. :D

No. But you make sure that most people who want to play can turn down the settings enough to play.
No one wants to take out the awesome graphics that are possible in this game.
But it is monumentally stupid to not be able to turn the settings down enough to get play-ability for most people on laptops.

Here ya go, OP. A gift from the internet.

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834215663

This took me literally 30 seconds to find. Will it run MWO (or most modern games) at full settings with high FPS? No. But it does have a 1gb dedicated video card, it will almost certainly run MWO just fine on low settings, and, best of all, it must be on sale! Instead of costing $2,000, it only costs $499!

And the really cool thing is, I'm sure even a non-uber nerd like yourself can go to newegg and find something just like this!

my $800 11" sager with an i7 with a GT650M can play this at medium settings at around 35fps.

It's great when games can run on low end hardware, but I'm really not seeing the problem here. Most folks who would consider themselves avid players of computer games know not to purchase or build machines that rely solely on an onboard video solution. Even MineCraft runs pretty poorly with just Intel's HD graphics or similar. My friend plays this game on a budget $600 Lenovo notebook computer with a basic GPU (something like a 630M or 640M) and while he can't turn up the settings too high, he never complains about framerate.

Just want to point out two things.
1. My 3 year old laptop that has a workstation graphics card (better for video processing) can run the game at medium, not great but it's playable for me.
2. My brother just got a new laptop with a dedicated graphics card that can run this really well for around $700.

Don't look for integrated cards, they are always slower, just look for something with a dedicated gaming card and if needed turn off shadows and anti-aliasing, those are going to be two big performance drains that add very little to gameplay imo.

Oh...btw...I have played battletech since the 70's and have played MW1, MW1 Crescent Hawk's Revenge, MW2, beta tested MW3, MW4, MC1, MC2, and played MA1 and 2, and Chromehouds on the XBOX 360 until they closed the server on us.

All of the previous MW games in the PC environment suffered from the same marketing default...the game developers all went in for high end graphic design requiring exceptional graphic cards, display, and processing capability that restricted that game's availability to the top 20 percent or so of the available market. I know this because I pointed out this exact same problem in EACH of the betas...was ignored...and watch each game go through initial success and quick death because of the artificial market limitations imposed by the high end graphic requirements.

What I am saying here is that the developers need to seriously take a page from World of Warcraft, Warhammer...and other MMP games....all now have outstand graphic high ends that take advantage of the super builds...but they also have ensured that normal PC's can play their games....Look at their market shares...MOST OF THEIR PLAYER BASE IS ON LOW END MACHINES!!!

That's a reality...take a lesson from 20 years of Mecha game history...avoid the same mistakes and broaden MMO's market base by ALSO providing a low end but playable graphic base to this game...

That is not a request...its a demonstrated key to this game's future viability!

I'd just like to point out that you have "not" been playing Battletech since the 70's. The original Battletech board game or what everyone now calls "Table Top" or "TT" did not come out until 1984.

I'm sorry but the OP has called people nut cases, children, nerd gamers, and geeks in every single one of his condescending posts while being completly ignorant of what he is talking about. Yet you want us to chill? How about you close this thread and explain to the OP if he wants to talk about this he needs to be more diplomatic about it and become more informed.

WoW ..where to begin. hmm ok.

Any user who activly wants to play games on a PC over console will have or should have a gaming rig.
ANY 'gaming' rig can play MWO.

If a persons comptuer cant play MWO, its not a gaming rig, and there for u have no place to moan or comment like u have in this thread.

For example, the graphics card.
A 560ti (which is now almost over a generation old) can play it on almost max, a 460 can almost do the same. Same goes for AMD cards. ANY 'gaming' card, be it low end gaming like a 550ti or 7770, mid level gaming like a 660ti or 7870, or high end, like a 680 or 7970 can play this game, and those card reach across a broad range of costs all ofwhich are well within the budget of any PC gaming person depending on how much they want to spend.

The CPU is becoming more and more an important part of gaming, unlike in the past where u could get away with a slow CPU, nowerdays its starting to become neccesery for atleats a strong single thread processor, how many cores isnt as much an issue atm, 2 cores with HT, or more commonly 4 core with no HT is all u need. That said, its not as cheap as it used to be in that respect, but its still within a respectable budget for any 'gaming' rig.

Yes u can indeed go insane with the specs, but thats where 'enthusiasts' and 'rich inthusiasts' lurk, u dont need a rig like that, those are the £/$2500 + rigs ur on about, ones with 2 or more GPU's, and custom water cooling loop, lots of OC'd RAM, and multiple SSD's.
For ~£/$800 u can build urself a gaming rig capable of handle any game out on High settings with maybe one or 2 exceptions (crysis 3 is one of them). For £/$600 u can build a rig that can play all games out on medium.
As soon as u hit low settings ur out of the gaming machines, 'low' is generaly there for those who want to play a game but dont necceserily have a gaming rig. If u buy prebuilt u can add on a significant % to that price.

So, with that said. If u cant play a game becouse u have low FPS, in most casses that not the games fault , even if its in beta. Game designers generaly design games to run on computers built for gaming within the last 5 years, thats a long time for computers and many regular PC gamers hate the fact they do that, as it slows the progress of things, u want software to push hardware so hardware gets designed and built and technology progresses.

Now if ur not able to play MWO, then ur ether on a computer thats
A ) to old,
B ) not to old but not a gaming rig,
C ) on a laptop that didnt cost $1200+

Sadly, I'm desensitized by these forums. I didn't even notice insults in the OP. But I don't have a $3000 rig so he's not talking about me.

He did make dumb mistakes in insulting people, I admit. But the point is valid. There was a huge bug that lowered fps massively. I dropped $300 to improve my machine. But I could have just bought a ps3 instead :-).

Also, it's a hge problem in software development generally. My computer is 1000 times faster than it was many years ago. It doesn't run a word procesor any faster. My internet gets faster, web pages load at the same speed due to sloppy design and gimmicks.

Video games are designed on top end machines, driving out customers who buy a new computer every 3-5 years and buy middling machines to start with.

Go to a big box store and you'll be lucky to find one gaming capable machine (asus laptop, $1200). Computer games have trouble staying competitive.

A huge reason wow is still successful is that it's playable on lower machines.

A number of people have asked why shadows can't be turned off all together. Point being, ther's a lot of people who would like to play games like mwo but can't due to design decisions not related to how the game plays.

Question: what kind of warranty does a $1000 newegg computer btw? Even a simple hard drive failure is expensive for people who don't build their own machines. I was told I would have been charged at least $500 to get a motherboard diagnosed and replaced due to labor costs if I hadn't had parts and labor covered by warranty.

I'm confused, are you saying before this patch you could run the game reliably with an INTEGRATED GPU on your 4 year old laptop? I can't even run Left4Dead on my 4 year old laptop with integrated graphics.

Are you sure, 100% sure, you were running it at a playable rate, on that laptop before this patch?

As crazy as it sounds, its actually possible.
I've done crazier things with a much older laptop.
Plus, what people consider "playable fps" is going to depend. I can easily see how 20 fps can be enough for some people if they're desperate enough.
Thats not to say that I think it should run well on a 4 year old integrated laptop GPU. This is cryengine3 after all.

Buying prebuilt comes with its risks, failing components becouse they r cheap, is one of them, thats how they make their money, they build a rig with a few key specs that look good, then cheap out on other things that people dont tend to look at in prebuilds ..like the motherbaord and PSU, 2 MAJOR things u do NOT want to cheap out on.

If u build the rig urself u know whats going into it, failures are much less likely.

Laptops ..well ..they are NOT gaming machines, most of them are smaller than a Xbox or PS3 for crying out loud, how can u expect them to play games as good or better ? If u want a laptop that can play games u have to be prepaired tp play through the hose for one, miniturizing Desktop sized components down to the size to fit in a laptop whislt also keep performance up is NOT cheap.

EDIT: 'Playable' is differnet person to person, for me ..on non competative games like MMO's 30 is the lowest i go. For competative games like most FPS games, 60 is the mark. MWO doesnt have as fast responses as u have ot wait for ur mech to turn and pivit etc so 45 is my botton line.

My friend who has laptop with GTX540m tried the game and said its bad, I asked him why? He said he tried on high, then med, then lowest settings, every time it was unplayable. This was around Jan., before a bigger performace buff, when mwo was notorious of the graphics setting that didn't change performance, only looks, what more, some here reported better frames with some settings on medium than on low, go figure.

They need to understand the game can be perfect, but If people can't play it, it won't matter.

Performance and bugs should be extremely high on priority list, instead of the "it'll get better eventually, relax" mood they have.

Dear God, please don't make MWO look like WOW like the OP wants. WOW looks like absolute garbage.

Also, people who are more likely to upgrade their computer are people with money. People with money will spend money on a game. Why cater to the poor who aren't going to give you any of their money?
