I dl'ed the installer, ran it, the setup completed successfully, I hit Run, instant windows message "MechWarriorOnline has stopped working." I have to use windows fixit to be able to uninstall, which completes successfully, but can't use it on the installation because that runs to completion.

Windows 7, 64bit
Updated the dotnet,C++,directX magic elixir.
Plenty good computer specs

you might want to actually tell us what those specs are.

Also most of our problems are currently driver issues..so update your graphics drivers.

I know you've just installed the game, but there is an issue where certain routers, security programs, and even ISPs have been implicated in delivering a corrupt .pak file (I think part of the issue lies in the way the patcher is delivered large files in very large chunks, as opposed to broken up into bite-sized bit like say, a large torrent would be)

Download 7zip, right click all the .pak files and select 'test archive'. I know it sounds dumb but I guarantee you it is possible to have the game appear to install fine but instead receive a corrupted .pak file (typically one of the large ones, but test them all)

If an individual pak file is borked, it can be replaced without a complete download.

also make sure you have DX9c, not the newest DX but actually an older one

Well, I don't see any .pak files, maybe it's not installing everything. I downloaded the exe from this site a few times but its the same thing. My install directory is simply:

[Bin32]
system.cfg
user.cfg

Inside Bin32:
bdiff_utils.dll - 78kb
BootstrapSentinel.exe - 112kb
MechWarriorOnline.exe - 1,326kb
patcher_version.dll - 4kb
PatchTarget.dll - 11kb

Seems kind of skimp.

Another suggestion is to submit a DXDiag log/file to support (link at top of screen).

Good luck with the resolution.
