so I had gtx680 in my system and was getting screen freezes during play. it so happens I have access to a lot of different high end hardware, so I thought I would try out an ATI card to see if it was NVIDIA related. I put an ATI 7970 card into my system, installed the latest catalyst drivers and now I get cryengine detected an unsupported video card, blah, blah. it does see it as a radeon hd 7900 series, that text is part of the message in the error window. I know this card is supported, but the game will not run. I tried a directx reinstall, c++ 2010 reinstall/update, and uninstalling and reinstalling mwo. no difference. can anyone help me out here?

It sounds like you didn't properly remove the Nvidia drivers so the engine was possibly detecting the missing card. Did you use driver cleaner or whatever is popular lately between card swaps?
You may also want to try the March 13.3 Catalyst beta drivers. I'm going to try those later on my 5850HD Black card later to see how they perform. The "current" driver is from January.

drivers were removed by using vendors uninstall application. other games worked fine when switching from NVidia to ati, i.e. dcs world, hawken. it is not a performance issue, just will not work. NVidia card is back in, used vendors uninstall applications and the game (mwo) works fine. it just did not like my ati card for some reason.

Honestly, for the ~7% performance difference, sell the ATI card on Ebay and buy another 680 for SLI. You'll have enough left over for a nice dinner, a movie and a room overnight for you and your significant other.
