I was thinking about this last night (this is not the first time this thread has cropped up, but I wasn't about to necro a thread from several months ago) and I thought it'd be nice to see some MWO Merchandise! Specifically I wanted a poster of the Centurion's concept art because it's awesome, but I decided to open up the options a bit more. Below is a short description of the different items:
  • Hats: Basically, baseball caps with different House / Clan / MWO Insignias on them
  • Shirts: The same as hats, but shirts! These could also have mechs on them.
  • Posters: Artwork from the game! Here PGI can get creative, offering either 1 mech posters (such as is seen in the concept art) or multi-mech (either grouped by faction or by a player's input). They could use a computer program to generate the multi-mech posters.
  • Scale Models: Essentially models of the mechs themselves, but also of the various cockpit items that are available. Classy Urbanmech statue anyone?
  • Bobbleheads: Bascially the same as above, but in bobblehead form. Because I just want to watch that dapper little hat bob around all day.
I know there are legal issues surrounding this (in terms of PGI acquiring the rights to this sort of material), but I was hoping to demonstrate that there is an interest for this, and to give PGI an idea of the price range their customers deem reasonable.

If you have other ideas for merch, suggest them below and I'll add them in!

Topps owns the rights to such things.

That's why they never actually sold any kind of merchandise.

I am not interested in doing any free advertising for PGI until they pull their thumb out, and release the art for Battlemech 20. I know I am a Clanner, but I still love the old-school IS mechs, and cannot wait to see what is coming up.

They could probably do the MWO logo, but I am sure they can't merch the mech images without permission of Catalyst Labs. Whether they have that permission or not is another matter.

Hats and posters should have pretty standard prices in line with other brands/companies. As for scale models I put $71+ but really it depends on the quality. Cheap dinky plastic thing, uhm, no. I have two very nice high quality wooden airplane models perfectly to scale and painted that are absolutely gorgeous. They ran up over $100 each, but assuredly, they are worth it.

From which stand point? If they haven't incensed it from Catalyst Labs, and possibly HG on the last T-Shirt they could get a cease and desist for selling them. NGNG is a much smaller fish than MWO though.

I know that PGI doesn't have the rights. What I'm trying to do is show PGI that it might be worth their while to acquire the rights in order to start merchandising. If we generate enough interest, capitalism will assert itself.

Agreed about the paintjob. I would pay extra for that! If there was some way to get my mechlab paintjob to transpose itself on the poster / model that would be amazing.

I would also dig some lanyards. I use 'em for work and rarely can find any that I like. I'm rocking a Thundercats right now...red and black, favorite colors. Would love to see them made in several color combinations.
