You just listed mechs in 3 of the 4 weight categories? Sounds like there is a fair amount of diversity in the 8 man queue. Are you sure its not more of a "we get our ***** kicked in 8 mans so we would rather farm randoms" thing?

Points raised, back to the OP. So I take it then that when and if shop prices drop drastically we should take that as a sign that we are experiencing community growth. Not saying it has happened. Nor am I saying it will. Rather just trying to find some semi-reliable metric for measuring the communities health. Anyone have any counterpoints to this position?

As for that I am wondering then, if that is not a good metric, what would be?

Do you think making a niche game with a small community was their initial goal?

Actually, I was referring to the explicit use of those particular chassis. The other team knew they were using an unfair team...

Everyone knows that 8v8 is broken. The only way to win consistently is to bring 8 atlai (which shouldn't be allowed against a balanced team).

When u say u see teams of ravens, teams of stalkers, teams of cents, and teams of atlases, its hard to take you seriously when you then say "The only way to win consistently is to bring 8 atlai". And this is for 2 reasons. One, you just contradicted yourself. Two, the plural of atlas is not atlai. Google it if you dont believe me.

I dont think the guy that said 3800 is going to explain to us how he got that number. NNor do i expect anyone to explain to me how 3800 is a "good thing".

P.S. I am batman!

I'm not quite sure that you're grasping the concept...which leads me to believe that you don't know what you are talking about (as well as the irrelevant grammar correction).
Players in 8v8 are using bugged mechs, Min/Max mech builds, or just plain out use tonnage to gain an advantage. NONE of this would be in any sort of competitive play. 8v8 is NOT balanced, and it's a known fact.

It is close to impossible to beat 8 atlases with a balanced team without going for the cap which is why many teams do it themselves. it's the only way to stay competitive.

There is a reason there are so many teams not playing in 8v8 matches...

Wait why can't we use min/max builds?

That's not an indicator either.

Well, I guess it is, in a way.

Thing is, free-to-play games will always have an increase in members/forum users. Why? Because it's free and people want to check it out.

What we have no way of knowing, and will never know, is how many of those new accounts (and existing accounts) continue to play after the initial "try-out" period.

The only real way to determine if a game, any game, is dying and/or dead is when you try to log on and can't.

Then you know the game is dead. Otherwise it's just pure speculation, on both sides.

Since you have no weight limit, you can take the same builds they do. Its not that you cant compete due to their choice in builds, its that you cant compete. You just need the excuse to explain to yourself why you cant win in 8 mans, without owning up to being worse than your opponent. 8 man is for big boys, and I guess that does not include you. The atlaii pluarality thing does annoy me. Lets not confuse the real issue though with players demonizing the 8 man queue.

Its not broken, that just cant hang with the best players, in teh competitive organized team queue. Probably to omuch pub farming. It made you soft. Guess its back to pub farming. Oh but you wont get any better doing that. Sounds like a downward spiral, no?

It's ok. We see that alot around here.

@ Lycan.

As a discussion about the "Community Dying," instead of a discussion about the Game, itself, this thread is being moved down to Jettisoned Communications.

funny thing that the devs themselves have said this counter is worthless to determining the in game population. Remember that funny graph they showed us that everyone freaked out over thinking that WAS the population graph even though there were no numbers?

PGI has stated in the past that the number of accounts posted on the website reflect the number of accounts that have been signed up AND have visited the forums at least once.
They've stated that the actual number of accounts are "multiple times" the number reflected on the website.
This would be in line with their statement that the majority of the player base have either never even been to the forums or have visited vary rarely.

Cheers.

Haha, me and my team have been around since early closed beta champ.
Yes, it is broken. My team should not be put up against a team that is 250 tons over our weight. We should not be FORCED to take 8 atlases to be competitive. If you want to bring a team of atlases, then you can fight another team of atlases. Except then nobody would do that anymore, right? there isn't any advantage to taking 8 atlases to another 8 atlas team. The only reason a team would do that is to bank on the fact that other teams aren't taking 800 tons of mech. It's not skill that gives you the advantage, it's firepower and armor (weight). Do you see now?

Oh, and the goons who take nothing but Cents (****** hit detection), Raven 3L's (can't hit for ****), and 6 ppc stalkers are generally hated by other groups. Why? Because they take advantages of the bugs in the game.

When are you going to tell your boss you're happy to do your job but get paid a $1.75 less an hour?

The next time a major recession hits and that is an option to prevent other drastic measures from being implemented such as major cuts to benefits.
I know a guy who had that happen back in 2008.
The employees went to management with the proposal to keep their jobs.

Id say they are hated because they lightly troll for fun, and consistently beat you, apprently even in mediums LOL. And your failing isnt in you being a victim of evil players taking pro team builds, its in your lack of foresight in taking a sub par loadout versus teams using pro team builds.

Sorry you cant beat centurions, really I am. :P No wonder you avoid the pro queue.

lol pro queue.

using bugged mechs is hardly a "pro team build"

If you want, we can perhaps set up an 8v8 against our teams?

Of course their going to say that and like I said earlier, they're correct.

However, Battlestar Galactica Online boasts that it has 15.7 million registered accounts. I italicized the key word because it's important. This company and the other one, are only going to announce, and boast about, the registered accounts. They aren't going to say anything about how many of those registered accounts are actually active.

If their investors, board of directors, etc. think that sharing the information that the community is dying, will perpetuate the community dying, then they actually have a duty to obfuscate that information, no?

When did the player counter disappear?

Agreed.

I'm not inferring anything with my post , just simply stated what has been said in the past for those who might not have known.
I would not presume to infer anything as I do not have access to any of the metrics PGI has.
However, it is probably safe to assume an industry standard churn percent and duration length.

Cheers

Well P.P., thats not acutally what the thread was about at all. It was a thread about finding a work around for deriving teh data thats been hidden, player counter, from some other source with some level of accuracy.

Do you always abstain from reading the threads you send to the basement?

Just wondering. Have a swell evening.

Which, honestly, has nothing to do with the Game per se. It doesn't address any of the gameplay, systems, or help convey information about the game to old or new players. If you squint hard enough, perhaps in a tertiarary way, but I'd say it's a good call to move it.

As always, please report any threads that may not deal with the game itself and we can move them.

Cheers.

That has everything to do with the game. How the changes in it are impacting its growth or recession. Front page stuff, of the utmost importance. If 99.9% of the current players stopped playing after the next patch, you would, applying this logic, say a conversation on that topic has nothing to do with the game.

Shenanigans.
