... clutch a game, it's glorious.

Huge props to MadPanda. I believe this is the first game I dropped with you, though I've read your posts and used your guides before. It was great fun getting to play with you. ^_^

Him in his Spider, me in a Dragon 1C on Alpine. Well done sir.

2x AC20 Jagers. Atlas DDCs. Catapults. Poptart Cataphracts. Raven 3Ls and Jenners.
Lost to a "gimpy" Dragon and a "weak" Spider. Also outscored by both.

Just goes to show that you can still compete in "sub-optimal" mechs.

Kudos again MadPanda, that was the most fun match I've had in a while. :)

It was a good game ^_^. My next game was pretty nice too. First soloed a centurion, it took a while so when I killed him I was the last one alive on my team and had two Heavy metals coming at me. Got them both :). They were in good health except their CT armor was nearly or almost gone. Spiders are not weak, they rock :). GG

Despite it's lackluster reputation, the spider can pack a mean punch in the right hands. I would have loved to have seen how that match played out.

Just played a match with MadPanda. I'll have to say he's great with that Spider!

I always find Lights interesting - in itself it can't really beat anything, but when paired with anything, miracle happens.

Also I bet MadPanda was riding a 5D.

Yup, a 5D, but he almost matched me in damage and the final score (we were the top 1 and 2 in that match).
There was a DDC Atlas who did half as much damage he did in that Spider.

3 MLAS or MPLAS can still hurt plenty, especially if you are staying in their blind spot and nailing vulnerable areas.
Also, knowing how to use those Jump Jets (and when not to) seems to make a huge difference.

And how did you guess I was on a 5D? My spider videos are on the 5V.

NERF YOU!!!

^_^

Specing spiders can be interesting as you can see higher level play... even when the chassis itself is sub-optimal for serious play.

Nicely done! A guild buddy of mine managed 940 damage on a Spider build with 2 small lasers and an ER PPC.

C'mon let's face it, the only Spider that has the capability to deal 500+ damage per match is 5D. K and V are good for finishing off, but D is the most practical one no doubt.

Dragon 1C and Spider 5D are great mechs! They are not supoptimal! ;)

According to "common" wisdom on the forums they are. :P

Just like how medium mechs are all garbage, and heavies can do EVERYTHING better and be just as fast. :P

Common wisdom is frequently uncommonly bad.

If wisdom was common we wouldn't have a word for it.

I've been meaning to write a mini-guide to the SPD-5D entitled something like "It doesn't suck after all!"

I think with the JJ buffs and Tormaline the Spider has finally found its stride. Well, the 5D anyway. The other two are still garbage cans with jump jets.
