ok.. let me start by saying i have just started playing this weekend.. and i love the game....

that said.. I really think there should be some smaller maps.. make it 4-6 mechs... then make say make a must have, 1 light, one medium... then only allow people that have had say under 100-200 matches..

I have noticed that, it is pretty obvious when you get rolled by a teamspeak lance.. not to say that does help me learn. Im just saying that for the noobies to have fun, it is definatly not fun getting rolled 8-0...

Perhaps it is time of day, cause i have definatly noticed that evening time those rolling lances show up way more often. But still, perhaps make a lobby, that you can sit in.. perhaps talk to people that join. I know i would much rather hang out for 20 mins.. and have a mission that i atleast have a chance, vrs walk in and then get schooled by a lance that knows what they are doing..

In some ways, just like if you have a 4-6 person lance that is all together.. im sure it would be more fun to play vrs someone that is capable.

basically i think there should be a better match making system...

thoughts??? Yes i know im a noobie... so no trashing.. this is just my point of view

JC the best thing i can suggest is find some people to play with in your timezone, you will learn much quicker and have more fun, unless you are some kind of hermit.

Matchmaker needs working for sure as well.

There's been a lot of posts complaining about the noob experience being terrible. They also mention the fact that you can't customize your mech as a big drawback during this time, as well as being forced to use a trial mech. So far, the only real progress made on this is a community designed mech, the Dragon-5N(C), the (C) is for Community, which is more usable than the stock variants. As for the matchmaking system, well, it's not all that great to veterans either, lol. It's a work in progress, so we'll just have to wait and see what will happen with that I suppose. Good luck and try not to get discouraged!

With the ELO matchmaking you should mostly be facing other newbies except when you gett picked to lower your teams EL O rating.

It sounds more like bored teams are creating newbie accounts so the can pugstomp.

In MechWarrior, we have this thing called the Baptism by Fire. If you're a newbie, you're going to get trounced. There's alot to take in at once and no real easy or effective way to make the process easier. You pretty much have to dig in, gut it out, and adapt and overcome.

Eventually you will become a vet, but the road is tough. But once you complete this stage, you will be better for it. As long as you have a no quit attitude, this phase should only take a few days. The game really isn't as atrociously hard to master as it seems. Just know we've all been in your shoes. Some of us did so in '94 or '97 or even as late as 2012. So you're fighting in with some real hard vets in here. But like I said, you will be better for it, and no time has been a better time to get involved.

Good luck.

Oh we definitely need lobbies, I'm worried we haven't even seen a sneak peek on lobbies.

They're coming in the mid to late summer. They'll be here.

Does the ELO still match group vs group? For example, both teams would have at least 1 teamspeak group/premade?

I don't remember being a newbie being that bad. Of course I had a founders Atlas though.

Well, not necessarily, but I've definitely noticed that when there's a team on one side there tends to be a team (or two) on the other.

Heck, last time I ended up in a game vs a Goon Squad 4man it turned out I had 2 teams on my side, both with people I recognized.

As to the OP, I recall PGI mentioning something about lowering where new players start in the Elo rankings.
Right now new players start right at average, rather than starting low and working their way up as they gain experience.

from the mouth of babes.

I was new just a few months ago. Before the Elo was implemented. The matches were closer matched. It was once in a blue moon I saw anything more than 4-0 or 2-0. (random/chance is the only fair way)

What happened to the fun was 30+ year old people on the forums who play in premade groups cry because another premade rolled them. NOW we pugs have to suffer an unfair, affirmative action system because grandpa got mad he did not get a free walker.

Elo is unfair, chance and random is the ONLY way a game like this can be fair. New player get punished and good players get punished in this system. Instead of everyone having to adapt overcome or fade away.

I am an AWESOME (as in good not the mech) mech pilot, I use to pilot them in former life's. Now I have to suffer -elo because of Bushes no child left behind mentality.

Bull****.

I play both PUG and premade.
I can say without reservation that the quality of playing in a PUG has vastly improved (for me) since Elo.
The quality of playing in a premade has degraded, but 90% win rate was a bit silly...

I think everyone's experience varies greatly with the ELO, but I do admit having come across some newbies in our 4-man games where they got rolled 8-0, 8-1 etc in their team that it's probably not the best experience.

Some newbies have just bought their mechs and learning how to customise their mechs. It is probably best for ELO to be tweaked to smooth the steep learning curve without getting extremely frustrated in the process.

That being said there are newbies who are a VERY FAST learner and are sticking it to the vets within 2 weeks of starting - and amassing kills.

Don't get discouraged, we vets will try help you with your questions.
