So I'm looking to purchase a JagerMech, but I'm not all that excited about setting up a standard AC40 DD build. Has anyone found success with a non-troll Jager build?

Jagerphant.

4 LL, 2 in each ST.
Arms serves as big heatsink ears.
275 engine.
Double heatsinks.

Works very well, can clock up 500+ dmg a match playing correctly.

One guy I play with, DarthPayne, usually has tremendous success with 3 x UAC5.

I've personally had a lot of success with this

2 AC 5's, 4 medium lasers, XL Engine (I run 300) for lots of ammo and heatsinks. Fast, great poke, good short-range punch. A lot of fun to play, and pretty effective (at least at my Elo bracket).

JaegerMech-A

2x UAC5s
2x ML
2x SSRM2

Little light on AC ammo, but whatever, hehe. Take out the AMS if you want a skim the armor a bit for more ammo.

With an 260XL (that I already had, otherwise an 265XL is even better) I run 2 builds I like. The first is of course the BoomJager (which works best on JM6-A, because of the big arm shields), 2xAC20, 2xML. The other is the Chop-Chop

With the XL300 I also run the Zen

2xAC5, 2xLL, 2XML, Engine XL275

or

2xAC5, 2xLL, 4xSRM2, Engine XL275

Both are pretty heat efficient, 1.25 range and very effective at all ranges.

Having mastered the DD I would suggest you don't bother.

The Jager has to be one of the most fragile mechs you can pilot; it's like a giant catcher's mitt for incoming fire.

There are other mechs out there that will carry most of the load-outs you can put on a Jager, and do it better.

I disagree.

First, the arms sit high and can clear a lot of obstacles which other mechs can't without exposing themselves more.

Second, the arms can pivot up and down further than torso mounted ballistics.

Third, the Jager is the only mech to be able to mount 2 AC/20s in the arms.

I kind of like the quad AC/2. I got XL 275, 14 DHS, and 2 ML to fill it out. Pretty sure my ELO in Heavies is noobsauce, though.

If you read the OPs post properly he says he doesn't like the dual ac20 build; thus there are other mechs (cataphract, catapult) that will serve him better.

P. S. having high mounted arms that pivot well is pointless when a few shots can blow up your side torso.

Don't knock the AC40 until you've tried it :)

Other than that, 3xUAC5 gets rave reviews, there's a ridiculous JM6-S 4 LL build (as XSive said, although you can also put in a bigger engine, Endo+FF, and remove the ears entirely) that is at least as good as serious 4LL builds people run on the K2, and you can't go wrong with dualguass.

I read the original post.

I disagreed with yours.

And I still do.

And it takes more

than a few shots

to blow up a side torso.

But then again,

if you keep getting hit

in the side torso,

perhaps you should move...

Welcome to life as a non-Catapult heavy :) (Seriously, though, the Jagermech does not have side torsos that are meaningfully more fragile than the ones on a Cataphract.)
