Great topic. Hints of the mighty Spanish armada vs. the lowly English fleet. I guess at the end of the day that is what is great about the balance of the mechs from light to heavy. I would love to see three atli going at 12 commandos.

It also brings a new element to the table of skill/tonnage. If you are going to take up 1/3 the total drop weight you better be a darn good player. It is really easy to not be that good and only count 1/12th the team.

That being said, I think that it should be pushed to 400 tonnes as I don't think you would ever see an atlas if it was weighted that heavily percentage wise.

2 Thoughts:

1) A team of lights will always have some big advantages over a smaller number of larger mechs. You have more pilots who are able to concentrate on a smaller number of targets. They're faster moving, harder to hit, and if you only have 3 atlases on the opposing team (as everyone is fond of imagining) then they will have a harder time focusing on a single mech long enough to take it down. Obviously a small team of assaults is doomed in this mode.

2) Why is everyone talking about lights and mediums being overused in the proposed mode as if it were a bad thing? We already have 2 game modes dominated by heavy and assault mechs. Wouldn't it be nice to have ONE that was the other way around, for a change of pace? IMO everyone is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

One more thing. Setting the weight cap for this mode will determine what the average mech size is. Set it low and you'll see teams of mostly lights and mediums. The higher it goes the more heavies and assaults will be brought to the game, until you just have another conquest or assault mode.

With everything thing MW4 did wrong.... a matchmaker with tonnage limits was the one thing they did absolutely right. We need this back as badly as we need matchmaker lobby.

The lights would win every time at the minute, because heavier mechs don't enjoy enough of an armour/weaponry advantage with the double armour system.

As said before, it should be based off of Medium mechs. 50tonsx10players = 10 medium mechs. Then players could drop a medium or two for some lights (10 hunchbacks, 9 hunchbacks & 2 commandos, 8 hunchbacks & 4 commandos).

Two meds could be traded for an assault (1 Atlas & 6 hunchbacks & 4 commandos)

And I am sure it could be better if I was not tired and limited myself to 25,50,100 :D

Though regardless of what rules we put in, I am sure Kuromorimine will still find some way to deploy 4 Stalkers, a Heavy Metal, 3 Jaggers, 2 Trashbuckets, a Flea, and an Omega.
Yeah, they are jerks like that. You have never been truly 'out-toned' until you fight Kuromorimine High.

Pushing the weight up to around 400 tons is a great idea *edit*, because as you said, the Atlas (and any other assault mechs for that matter) would never be seen if they accounted for 1/3 of the team. Increasing the weight limit to 400 would mean an assault could be only 1/4 the team, which seems much more viable.

Now you would be able run a team with an Awesome, Cataphract, Dragon, 2 Centurions, Jenner, Spider, and Commando.

11 Jenners would be the best thing people could spam at this point, or 10 jenners and 2 mandos/fleas. I think the team above with the assault, 2 heavies, 2 high speed mediums, and 3 lights could fair well against this.

So now the question is, should I change/repost the thread to "400 Ton Game Mode"? I think the increase to 400 allows for more varied team comps, and solves the problems previously pointed out here. What do you guys think?

I think it should be brought to the suggestion forum with a poll that asks if people would like a game mode that placed a limit on tonnes not the amount of mechs brought into the fight. Would be curious to see the results. Would also enjoy seeing the matches. I think that it would be a true test of an atlas pilot to see if they could match up against four commandos nipping at their heels.

It would even be better if it were some kind of defend the base objective. Three or four assaults guarding a base and 12-16 lights pop over the ridge to attempt to level it. Makes for a near storyline type match.

Would definitely have to wait for CW to kick off as this is not the kind of matches left to puggers. Even with a faction, merc unit or clan this seems like it would be difficult to organize/set parameters.

I listened to the suggestions from you guys, and hopefully this looks just as fun to those of you who were excited about it; and, more fun to those of you who helped point out some balance issues.

Here it is in a more refined form (thanks to you all,) in the suggestion section, with a poll.
Thanks again for all your ideas.

I would pay to watch 10 Spiders or 12 Streakmandos duke it out with 3 Atlai.

It would be the most one-sided beatdown of all time.
