The developers should seriously consider adding the ability for players to send out a Distress Signal.
Basically, when you send out the signal, your position is pinged on the Battlegrid to alert your teammates of your immediate danger along with a distinctive audible sound. Your BattleMech will display "SOS" for easy identification. Don't worry; the distress signal can be cancelled at any time. This might help newer players that like to run off by themselves. After all, MWO is a team-based game. Thoughts/Opinions?

Definitely agree.

They should get this thing to the point where it feels like first person DotA 2 with mechs. It inspires the kind of meta everyone seems to be interested in.

Ah no, please! The ability to grief would be too much.

Make it a CBill only consumable and we'll talk. Maybe 10-20k to discourage griefers? Perhaps a little more? I'm constantly CBill poor but nobody else seems to be from reading all the millionaires reference their large cache of CBills.

If done correctly, I doubt it'd be much of a "grief" feature. And griefing is going to happen regardless of whether people spam an SOS button or not.

SOS is faster than typing, so... why not?

I can picture it now. 8 people, scattered across Tourmaline all hit their SOS beacons at the same time ...

I would love a feature similar to league of legends ping system. just 2 or 3 simple color pings to alert fellow PUGers that you need help or that their impending doom (the enemy team) was on the way.

if there was a way to make it simple and quick (able to do in the middle of combat) with only 1 or 2 button presses it would do a lot in the way of helping PUGs communicate.

They would simply need to put a timer on it to decrease griefing. I think it would come in very handy. Not to mention chat quick buttons B)

Shoot first thing i'd tell folks to do is hit every time they get contact....... Sometimes you got contact visual, no targetable cause ecm, distance ect.....

2 pings......2 nme sighted.....ect. I rather hit that one button 5 times then type chat 5.

I ain't gonna read that chat......color blind..... purpley blue writings on blue sky........thats some spiteful sht.

It's a good idea. Simple way to stop spamming it would be to add a cooldown to it, like 1 minute. You can't be in different kinds of trouble in a minute so one SOS is fine.

I like the idea, there is enough to do without trying to type that in 2 or 3 on 1 and you need assistance at your position. I know team chat/vent/voip etc... negates this to some extent, but there would still be uses for it. Good idea I think.

This should be part of the better communication system in the game.

e.g. hit tilde to bring up the quick comms menu.

1-5 for typical comms (5 can be ping position on map).

What about a button that makes a pug team start caring about the fate of the single slow assault mech they all ran off and abandoned as soon as they made contact with the whole enemy team?

I was seriously hoping I'd escaped endless spamming of "NEED BACKUP!!!" when I stopped playing Counterstrike.

Even if they do implement it it'll probably be blocked by ECM.

And 3 pings would mean White Walkers.

Yes please. And it fires flares for those ECM occassions.
