Muromets Build

I want to have something for the range, but for the most part I am looking for a close combat build.
Currently my Muromets setup looks like this:
2 ER Large Lasers in left and right torso
LB 10-X AC in the right Torso
2 AC/2 one in the right and one in the left arm
XL Engine 280
Endo-Stell internal structure.
Double Heat Sinks, one additional in the engine slot
I'd like to keep the ER Lasers in, so I can still deal some dmg on the big maps. Also using ACs for the range seems not to work for me because I find it pretty hard to hit with them, additionally you have to leave your cover because the CTFs chassis arms are pretty low. Maybe ER PPCs will somehow work but they are quite heavy and I haven't tried them out yet.
I have two tons of AC/2 ammo and 2 tons of LB 10-X AC ammo in the left torso with a CASE.
I had two UAC/5 in the arms but I didn't like them that much, because they seem to jam quite often. I tried chain firing them but that didn't work either.
So far my current setup seems to work fine for me, but I'd like to ask if there are some other possibilities because I keep dying quite often.

XL300, max armor, twin-Gauss or triple-UAC5.

I like this build because it is easy to handle the weapons, has some speed/maneuverability, can engage at medium to long range, and doesn't rely too much on ammunition.
I have tried ER Large Lasers and even PPCs in the energy slots but I find that the range isn't worth the extra heat.
Oops! I see I have the arm armor flipped. The lower armor should be on the empty arm, of course.

If I fancy something different I just take a different mech out for a spin.

There are others that work great...

Indeed! Lower dps but reliable and with superior mobility.

Put the UAC5 on chainfire in one group and they will never jam and you put out constant 5 pt slugs. This works even better up close if you lock arm to torso.
Put the 3 ML on chain as well and use them as supplemental damage, or w/o chain for dealing with lights.

Used the exact same build for quite a while, to great success.

No matter the map, I never regret dropping in this 'mech.

The benefit of the Ilya is the 3 Ballistic hard points in different locations...
3 AC5's or 3 UAC5's is truest way to go..
Use it's unique hard-points to your advantage. Most other Heavy Mechs can Laser Boat, so don't waste the tonnage on big lasers.
3 UAC5's and 3 ML are realltyall you need..
Just learn to rely on the mediums while you 'unjam' the UAC5's as they will inevitably jam.
But when they don't jam.. and they go into 'super fire' mode for a second or two seconds with all three canons, you will wreck ANYTHING.
