Hi,

Any one know why double heat sinks take 3 slots not 2 ? They take up lots of room and are not in fact double as effective. I was messing around on smurfys and found often I could be just as heat eficinate with single heats sinks thanks to being able to fill up all those little spare slot that double can not.

Any one else think Double heats sinks should be two slots ? or we should be able to mix singles and doubles ?

Double heatsinks have the same tonnage as single heatsinks, but are more effective.

When I have a mech that has 2 tons spare and enough crit slots, DHS are simply plain out better.

Realistically, unless you go with something like Atlas or Stalker, DHS is a much better option.

Clan DHS are 2 slots.
We should not be able to mix singles and doubles (because Battletech TT gods say so).

Double heat sinks only do 1.4X a single in this game.

Apparently the devs found true 2X heat sinks would imbalance the game too much.

Native engine heatsinks are still 2.0, so the exact mechs that they found imbalanced (*cough* 3 second jenner) actually DO function with true doubles.

So DHS are basically taxed on bigger mechs, most light and medium builds just run on the engine heatsinks.

I can't understand why you would want SHS in any mech. It is as pure an upgrade as it gets.

There are a couple of rare assault builds that can get more SHS cooling than DHS cooling, but they are few and far between, and you need assault level tonnage to mange it.

Are you talking like, Awesome with 4 LLs and 30 SHS or something? I am going to buy an AWS-9M this weekend and might enjoy trying something like that.

I don't see how SHS boating in Atlas is smarter than DHS boating. With a STD335 and 4 PPCs it will hold 21 DHS for about the same cooling as 35.4 SHS, if my understanding of the heat mechanics are correct.

I don't see how you can get more than 33 SHS into an Atlas unless you down-size its engine quite a bit or remove a lot of armor. Am I wrong?

Because Inner Sphere and not test-tube-baby-factory Clanner tech.

I do not have a problem with DHS taking up 3 slots, however, I think you should be able to also stuff them into the leg slots. Ammo cannot (even in a fantasy world) move up from the legs to the firing points so just let people use the leg slots for heatsinks, whatever size they are. Plus, moving through water with the heatsinks in the legs would be a boon to laser boats like the Hunchie 4P. Now if they could only slow mechs down when moving through water (sorry, digression).

Yeah, the 3-sec-Jenner is as feared as the 6-MG-spider. :-P

And there are some prototype mechs with mixed SHS and DHS... but... we all know that's impossible, so those must be evil lies.
