this is similar to what i ran way back in closed beta. Haven't played a Commando in a few months though. So i'm probably not the best person to ask.

Non-ECM version has one ton more SRM ammo and a half ton more armor. If you run an ECM mech without ECM, be ready for the heckling you'll get from teammates. Also, I recommend more armor in the backsides.

Certainly. I tend to have the worst time trying to get a lock on anything. don't ask me why. I even took to using TAG and a Beagle Active Probe with poor results. I may just need more practice, but I don't see how anyone can acquire and keep a lock on anything faster than a Medium Mech.
Plus, I can aim SRM's decently well.

Because they're bad.
The only point in using the commando is using streaks. It's so light that even if you're 'bursting' higher with SRM 6s you're still going to be pumping out the same amount of missiles over the course of the game. Using streaks makes sure they nearly always hitting from farther distances, therefore doing more damage over time.
On top of all of that, SRM damage is nerfed into the ground right now, so there is no reason to be using a commando at all.

Make sure you unlock your arms, otherwise, despite what people say the com2D slays most other lights when using streaks.
Having 3 streaks lets you nuke spiders, jenners, and some ravens, along with murdering any cicada variant.
The real weak area is when up against any other weight class.. As those streaks are terrible for taking on heavies and assaults. (which is why I prefer the jenner).
Streaks are still pretty powerful, even after the nerf.

The build I used for about 75% of my matches has been
either 1xSRM6(CT)1SRM4(RA) or 3SRM4s. Also, the Medium laser in the Left Arm is mandatory in my opinion, you need that extra boost of firepower, especially when you've dumped all your missiles.
In both builds I am running an XL195 instead of 210. maxes out at 139.5KPH. not a full 150+, but it's good enough to get the job done and keep up with anyone. Also, non of my COM2D builds have max armor.
Commandos can be really good brawlers. I have actually never lost a single 1v1 brawl to a Yen-Lo-Wang. Regular Centurion 9ALs can be a real tough nut to crack, but for some reason the Yen-Los have been easy to kill for me.
I also always mount both the ECM and BAP. You can choose to remove the BAP if you need to free up extra weight.

It's good, run it.
SRMs sadly suck these days, and this is actually one of two commandos where i would NOT change the SSRMs against SRMs.

Been putting up decent numbers, but realistically speaking, you might wanna rethink not using SSRMs.

I dunno, I have been putting up pretty decent numbers with a COM 1B using the stock build, minus missles and plus heatsinks.

Just like there are a lot of bad Commando pilots there are a lot of bad Wang pilots. To make the Wang really shine you need it upgraded and the mech Mastered for the other module slot. If you can protect your AC20 while you brawl with torso twisting you can make people cry. In the Wang you just cant have two people targeting you otherwise the one you arent circling will rip off your AC20 off.

Gotta say, that made me laugh my *** off.
Surprisingly I haven't run into many Yen-Los with AC20s until very recently, but yes, I quickly learned to rip that right arm off when facing most centurions. Though my usual approach is to go for the CT always, I don't like dealing with Zombie builds.
To the Centurion's credit though. It is the only mech I know of where you can look at your health status see that it's about 40% and go "huh, everything is cool here, I'm still in really good shape" I've had harder time killing them than I did with Stalkers and Atlai.

it makes a great scout killer...its probably the most versatile light i use...i also use the xl 180 engine...bap and ecm...can only fit a small laser on it...but it's more of a team built mech...i use it for pugs though...has my highest win percent...
i have the sensor booster module...and sometimes ill put an airstrike module in for fun...works good when u can sneak behind their line and drop it on them while they hide in cover...makes them scatter giving your team some easy free shots
you could also try uav module if your team has a lot of lrm boats

I've actually sold my COM 2-D (after mastering the chassis) to free up a mech bay. :/
