Nope. A 'pure reconnaissance' unit has no real place in a game about shooting mechs. Air strikes, artillery strikes and LRMs are so weak that dedicating a mech (or two in the case of LRMs) to them is just not worth it.

We do but there isn't any real point. When the concept of the game is built around killing other mechs, the need for information becomes irrelevant. I can tell a GREAT team what mechs are coming and where they're going but that team already knows cause we've dumbed down the maps to the point of always fighting in the same spot anyway. So, while information is power there is no correlation of information to power in the game. At least, not right now.

Theres really no such thing as a pure recon unit unless it has absolutely no weapons.

Why would we need Recon in the current game? Everyone's played the current maps multiple times and most of the time people go to the exact same points on the map before they start pew pewing. So any point to recon is wasted, not to mention the maps are too damn small for long range fights as is, making recon even less needed.

Short answer: No
Most of this is reflected with the Spider, but really, there's a point were scouting becomes rather unnecessary after the mid-point of a match.

A mech dedicated to scouting would be fairly useless. Yes, information can be weaponized, but not to the point where it will win you the match.
